NAU Football in 2016 Take a look back at the lumberjacks

As 2016 comes to a close, let’s take a look back at some of the highlights of the calendar year in no particular order.

Over 2,000 NAU students participated in the annual Running of the Freshman

Head Coach Jerome Souers became the All-Time Winningest Coach in Big Sky history with 112 wins

Siupeli Anau All-Big Sky First Team Defensive End

Oct. 10 - ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week...Anau registered 3.0 sacks for a loss of 32 yards, including a pair of forced fumbles.

Finished the season with 55 tackles, 15.0 tackles for a loss of 83 yards, a Big Sky high 8.5 sacks for a drop of 66 yards, and three forced fumbles.

Griffin Roehler All-Big Sky First Team Placekicker

The only freshman in the league to earn first, second, or third team honors in any position.

Nov. 7 - ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week...Roehler went 4-for-4 in made field goals, tallying one in each quarter. He was also 3-for-3 in made PATS, giving him 15 points on the day; the most points scored by kicking by a Lumberjack in a game in at least six years. Roehler added eight kickoffs for 508 yards at 63.5 yards per kick with three resulting in a touchback.

Roehler led NAU in scoring with 83 points. He made 13 of 16 field goals and 44 of 45 PATs in 2016.

Roehler finished as one of 11 players in the FCS to register four or more made field goals in a single game.

Emmanuel Butler Two-Time All-First Team Big Sky

First player in NAU history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons

Butler recorded 1,003 yards to increase his career total to 2,446. He needs 597 yards to break the NAU all-time career record.

Butler is three receiving touchdowns away from breaking the NAU career record.

Northern Arizona beat Montana and Montana State in the same year for the first time since 1997.

Joe Logan 15th in FCS Freshman of the Year voting

All-Big Sky Honorable Mention

Rushed for 37 yards to the endzone on his first collegiate carry. Recorded a 72 yard touchdown on his second carry.

Khalil Dorsey All-Big Sky Honorable Mention

Dorsey led NAU with two interceptions. NAU had eight on the season as a team.
The NAU offensive line allowed just eight sacks on the season and went six straight games without allowing a sack.
