An illustrator is an individual who creates 2- Dimensional images for various types of industries such as technical design, fashion design and advertising. In this profession, people use many types of techniques to create an illustration and the effects an illustration can have such as shadows and color on in image.

It's predicted that any job in the fine arts department, including illustrating, will increase by at least 3% between 2012 to 2022 which is a lot slower than previous years.

Job Schedule

There is hardly a time an illustrator gets a break from a job. They typically work 7 days a week for an entire year depending on the project that's being worked on.

Eric Carle

Eric Carle is a well known illustrator,writer and designer for children's books such as "The Hungry Caterpillar" and "Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?".

He was born in Syracuse, New York in 1929. He got his start as a graphic designer for an advertising company but his true passion for writing children's books was discovered when he worked on a collaboration with Bill Martin Jr. on Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

In his life time he's created over 50 illustrated children's books since his start with Bill Martin Jr. his most famous being the story known as "The Hungry Caterpillar"

Throughout his life, he has had so many more accomplishments then just writing successful book titles. He founded a museum known as The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.

He's also received many honorary degrees and various amounts of awards for children's literature such as , the Japan Picture Book Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Illustrators.
