ABOUT MAURITIUS - Officially the Republic of Mauritius, Mauritius is a tropical island nation off the southeast of Africa in the Indian Ocean known as a sun and beach destination. It boasts of lush mountainous interior covered in tropical forest, beautiful sand beaches and coral reefs. Mauritius is made for adventure, sunworshippers and nature enthusiasts. It is a densely populated island of around 1.2 million people with a reputation for stability and racial harmony among its mixed population. Mauritius is known as a plural society where all the ethnic groups present: Hindus, Muslims, Creoles, Chinese and Europeans live in peace and where all the ancestral cultures have been preserved. These features make the island a unique place in the world, and the Mauritians are known for their tolerance and kindness towards all people. English is the official language, but French and Creole are widely spoken.

Mauritius has preserved its image as one of Africa's few social and economic success stories, being a sugar and clothing exporter and a center for up market tourism. Its capital, Port Louis, is a coastal city full of life and with a great cultural offer. The life of the locals can be found in its multiple markets, where you can taste the delicacies of the country and buy the native products of Mauritius. It's untouched natural wonders are another of its great attractions: the Grand Bassin, its great volcanic lake; Le Morne Brabant, a huge basaltic rock; or the Land of the seven colors and the waterfall of Chamarel, are just some of the jewels that the country boasts.

Is this an escorted tour? No. There are a few days where scheduled group activities are planned with a guide to see the beautiful island; however, and there are just as many leisure days that you will have to plan your own day's activities as well.

I want to relax on vacation. Can I do that on this getaway? Indeed! This trip is designed for relaxation. Everyday, you will be able to enjoy relaxing "ME" time to engage anyway you decide. Additionally, you are welcome to skip any planned group social activity and relax at your leisure. You will definitely return home from this trip rejuvenated and refreshed instead of being exhausted.

Can I do my own thing before and after the tour? Absolutely, you can! Our Social Group organizes travel for the group of women but it is by no means a 'must' to be with the group the entire trip. It is your vacation and you can choose to spend it as you like, as long as it does not inconvenience any of the other travel members. Our sisterhood of members travel together as friends, and we encourage you to be as free and independent as possible on your vacation. In the evenings, some of us may go out as a group for dinner, but if you have had enough 'group time' for the day, you can enjoy personal "Me" time to yourself. This is especially needed for people who are introverts and it completely understood. You may even choose to sit out on parts of the group tour and link up again later if you like. Please note that you are liable for the cost of any alternative activities you choose to undertake during your leave and you will not receive a refund for any unused services or food.

How do I make a reservation? You may lock your spot by clicking the link below to complete your reservation form online, on the phone, or in person at one of our Meetup.com Socials.

Are prices based on double occupancy? Yes, PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ vacation packages and retreats are always based on double occupancy; however, we do offer a Single Supplement if you prefer a room to yourself. We do not offer triple or quad room accommodations.

Can you help me secure a roommate if I cannot find one? Yes, many women who sign up for our vacation packages and retreats come alone. PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ is happy to arrange a RoomShare Match upon request, but cannot guarantee one will always be available; neither does PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ guarantee compatibility.

I enjoy my personal space. Can I have a room to myself? Yes, the price is higher for a single room and it can be organized. Please look for the additional single supplement rate at the pricing area.

How do I pay for the trip and what form of payment do you accept? We have various payment options available including credit card, debit card, e-check, bank-to-bank money transfer and ACH; however, no cash, check or money order is ever accepted. An invoice will be emailed to you to pay your initial deposit and subsequent monthly payments. You will receive an updated Account Statement after each payment.

Should I insure my trip and how much does it cost? Proof of out-of-country medical insurance is required to travel with Pumps & Passport. Travel protection coverage is short term insurance intended to protect against “unexpected” travel-related expenses and emergencies, such as cancellation, interruption, medical expenses, evacuation, loss or delay. Travel insurance is highly recommended. You may receive a travel protection quote for your trip here: Travel Protection Quote

PUMPS & PASSPORTS™, a national women's empowerment Meetup group, supports women over 40 who desire to connect, engage, travel and explore the world.

Started in 2014, PUMPS & PASSPORTS™ was founded to answer the call of women around the country with a growing impulse for connection, as empty nesters realize that life does not end after the kids leave home. Women who join our Social Group are intent on making time for themselves to celebrate and live life to the fullest. Our Social Group’s aim is to support women in forging genuine friendships and unite in our desire and love to travel. What has developed is an opportunity to see the world in a community of sisterhood.
