The Council Bluffs Classic has proven to be one of the toughest tournaments in the Midwest. This year was no exception as the this tournament featured nationally ranked teams as well as top ranked teams from Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Kearney High School battled through the two day format competition to finish 3rd out of 38 teams in the field. Bearcat sophomores Nick James and Phillip Moomey led the way by finishing third in their respective weight classes. Moomey was able to avenge losses from last year over three different opponents including Jack Huffman from Millard West who was the state champion at 113 pounds last season. Nick James defeated top ranked wrestlers from both Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska to finish 3rd at 132 pounds.
