Thinking about technology integration

SAMR & Google Suite for Education

The image below shows how Google tools can be used to move activities along the SAMR ladder. When designing learning experiences for students remember that substitution isn't bad and redefinition isn't the daily goal. Students should have experiences with activities across the SAMR model and Google tools are a great way to get there!

Tech Tuesday

This year we will holding hands-on tech training and workshops throughout the district on Tuesdays. During these sessions, you can learn about a variety of tech tools and how you can integrate them into your practice.

Each session will be hands on so you have time to explore the tool/strategy. At the end of the session, we will schedule time to follow up with in-class support.

Visit the EdTech Website to see the full list of upcoming sessions. You can sign up to attend sessions by clicking on the link to the Google Form below (you must be logged in to your @rowlandschools.org account).

Tech Tools

FlipGrid

Flipgrid is a tool that allows students to respond to topics and prompts by recording short videos. Students' responses can be moderated by you before appearing for the class to see. In the paid version, students can respond to each other with a video reflection. This is a great tool to give all students a voice and supports a safe and fun classroom community.

Adobe Spark Page

You might have noticed that this month's newsletter is on a different platform. We have switched over to Adobe Spark Page which is a free webpage builder available on iPads and Chromebooks that allow you to create your own web story using pictures, video, and text. Below is an example of a Spark Page created by 2nd grade students at Rowland Elementary. There is also a tutorial video to help you get started!
