What's Happening @ PRMS August 2019

Connect With US!!

PRMS staff and administration make every effort to ensure that parents are kept up to date on all events available to learners at PRMS. Make sure you stay connected by providing PRMS with an up to date phone number and email address, and by checking your spam folder regularly if you are not receiving emails.

Look for your PRMS learner to bring home their Data Binder every Thursday.

Last year we had several requests for academic planners & we listened!!! Every Thursday learners will bring home their data binder with their most recent assessments, goals, and work samples of their personal accomplishments! Mentor teachers will spend 30minutes each day teaching learners how to manage their time on task, balance due dates, and set goals among other things!

Look for Monthly Newsletters such as this one to be sent out the first week of each month via email, website, and the PRMS PTA Facebook page.

Counselor's Corner

From the Counselor

Dear parents and/or guardians,

I have had the privilege of meeting many of you since school has started. For those of you who I have not met yet, I am Heather Windham, the counselor at Pike Road Middle School this year. As the school year begins, I want to reach out to you as parents and ask that you take this short questionnaire to help me better plan my counseling program to fit the needs of the learners. This questionnaire is completely optional, although it will be used in conjunction with data to plan counseling classroom lessons. Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to working with all of you!

Neighborhood Bridges

Neighborhood Bridges is an anonymous partnership between Pike Road Schools and the community to help meet the needs of learners and their families. Follow this link to subscribe to weekly emails that will allow you to stay informed of ways our learners may be in need of your kind donations.

Academic Information

Open House & Meet Your Lead Learner Nights

Open House for PRMS will be held in the PRMS gym at the following times:

  • C5, and New to Pike Road Families August 19th from 5:30-6:30
  • C6 and C7 returning students August 19th from 6:30 - 7:3o

What to expect:

Each Open House session will begin with a brief informational presentation from our Principal, Mrs. Vicki Davis. Parents will be able to pick up student schedules, visit classrooms, meet teachers, and drop off school supplies with their child's mentor teacher. We will have informational tables set up for Transportation, Child Nutrition, PTA, Technology, Nurse, and more!

Student Arrival & Departure

Student drop off will be located at the PRMS Gym doors, and will begin at 7:15am each morning. In order to keep our carpool line running smoothly, please have students ready to exit cars when they arrive at drop off. If you need to visit the school for any reason, please park and check in through the main office doors.

Carpool students will be dismissed from the PRMS Gym at 3:00pm. Please do not arrive to the carpool lane before 2:45pm. Please have your PRS hangtag positioned with your student's name clearly visible for our staff, and they will call your student to the carpool line. For the safety of our students, please do not pass cars in the carpool line.

Student Schedules

Student schedules will be handed out at Open House. Request to change forms will be available at Open House & will be due by August 28th. You may find extra copies on the Counselors page at middle.pikeroadschools.org

Schedules may only be changed for the following reasons:

  • Incomplete Schedule or Scheduling Error
  • Schedule reflects incorrect grade level class
  • Student would like to add or drop band

After School Care

PRMS will not offer after school care for the 2019-2020 school year. PRES will continue to offer their EPIC program, but parents will have to request this service and arrange for transportation to PRES.

Transportation Registration

PRS transportation has been hard at work making sure all our students have a safe ride to and from school everyday! Click the link below to view your route by entering your address and choosing your child's school. Please be sure to re-check your bus times daily over the first 2 weeks as schedules may change due to new enrollments.

This year we will continue to use "Here Comes The Bus" as an option for parents to track their child's daily bus route & see when their child's bus arrives and departs at select locations. You must register online through the link below, before downloading and logging in using the mobile app.

Technology & Fee Payments

Students in communities 5-7 have brand new touch screen Chromebooks for classroom use. Students in C5 & C6 will leave their devices in their mentor class at the end of each day. C7 will have the option to take their device home, or leave it in mentoring to charge each day. Devices have already been assigned & delivered to mentor/homeroom classes and will be ready for use when students return to school.

This year's technology fee is $100 for for single student families or $85 per middle school child for families with multiple students at PRS. You can pay technology fees at Open House, online by clicking the link below, or by visiting PRMS website and clicking the Fee button.

School Supply Lists

Find your C5, C6, & C7 School Supply lists on the PRMS website or by clicking the link below. School supplies may be dropped of with your student's mentor teacher during Open House or brought the first day of school.

PRMS Athletics

PRS hosts a variety of school sanctioned sports throughout the school year. The Alabama High School Athletic Association recognizes school sponsored athletics in grades 7-12. However, athletic opportunities for younger grades are sponsored by off campus organizations. While PRMS tries to help these groups send out information to our learners, we are not officially affiliated with these athletic teams. PRMS sponsored sports are listed on our webpage or can be found by clicking the direct link below:
