What Is The S-Zone?
A relatively newer tradition consisting of around 800 Penn State students, the S-Zone is organized during each home game at Beaver Stadium by the Lion Ambassadors.
What originated as students holding color-coordinated card blocks to create the famed "S" in 1998 rapidly evolved through LAMBS' stewardship to become the iconic part of Beaver Stadium that it is today.
In 2004, thanks to the Alumni Association, the famous S-Zone T-shirts came into existence. Its mark can be seen at every home game -- and YOU can be a part of it too!
How Can You Sit In The S-Zone?
Students with student tickets can enter the S-Zone by obtaining a special S-Zone ticket from a booth located outside Gate A at Beaver Stadium. There will be the trademark "S" markings, so you won't miss it!
It's best for students to arrive between 45 minutes to an hour early to ensure they receive their shirt -- plus, it's one of the best seats in the house!
Sitting in the S-Zone comes with responsibility!
- Stay in the stands for the ENTIRE GAME
- Cheer LOUDLY
- Be a RESPECTFUL FAN; You are representing Penn State by sitting in the S-Zone!
The S-Zone takes on different forms at different times throughout the year. One game, you may see Penn State's original pink and black colors represented. Once a year, the S-Zone sports a gold THON ribbon (complemented by gold S-Zone shirts).
The S-Zone appears all over campus at different events. Below, you can see freshmen sporting their first S-Zone T-shirts at Be A Part From The Start held in Rec Hall!
Over the years, the S-Zone has evolved into one of the most unique, recognizable student section trademarks in all of college athletics
The Alumni Association played a key role in ensuring the S-Zone remained a stadium fixture during the 2020 season in which fans were not permitted into home football games.
Alumni Association CEO Paul Clifford highlighted the Association's creation of a unique S-Zone that lived in its usual location throughout the 2020 football season:
“Throughout the pandemic, the Alumni Association has continued to look for ways to lift up these Penn Staters and help them feel the power of the Penn State network...In this small but visible way, the Alumni Association is putting the names of members of the classes of 2020 and 2021 in the iconic S-Zone to support their classmates on the field and to show the world who has college football’s greatest student section — with or without fans in attendance!”
