You will join like-minded colleagues from around the world to see Havana open its doors to official exhibitions, openings, alternative shows, performances, and experimental events of select contemporary artists from throughout the developing world. Visit artist studios, go to openings, hear live music, and get to know the unique city of Havana at it's best. It will be an experience to remember forever and we hope you will join us.

The Havana Bienal XIII: Rethinking Future / La Construcción de lo Posible

The Havana Bienal was conceived in 1984 by the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center as an event for artists instead of for collectors. It has gained importance over the years as a meeting place and platform for artists from Latin America and developing countries.

This Thirteenth Bienal suggests new paths of collective reasoning between the public, place, and levels of experience. Along with responding to the present, the artworks will outline notions of the future that, at least at the poetic or symbolic level, respond to our needs for social transformation. The participating artists have not yet been announced. For more information on this art event please visit @bienaldelahabana

The Hotel Habana Riviera is a historic resort hotel located on the Malecón waterfront boulevard in the Vedado district of Havana, Cuba. The hotel, which is now managed by the Spanish Iberostar chain, was built and owned in 1957 by mobster Meyer Lansky and still maintains its original 1950s style. It was a casino that could avoid the rule of U.S. law and the F.B.I. and was intended to rival the comfort and contemporary luxury of any Las Vegas hotel of the era. At the time it was considered the epitome of resort-construction, designed by architect Igor Boris Polevitzky, one of the deans of Miami Modern architecture. Lansky hired two of Cuba’s great artists, muralist Rolando Lopez Dirube and sculptor Florencio Gelabert, who designed the white marble sculptures of an intertwined mermaid and swordfish that fronts the entrance porte cochere, and "Ritmo Cubano" (Cuban Rhythm), a large lobby sculpture that depicts twirling male and female dancers rendered in bronze. In its heyday the hotel was frequented by Ginger Rogers, Ava Gardner, Steve Allen, and Nat King Cole.
