James Madison Abigail m.

James Madison was 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighed 100 pounds. He appeared on the $5000 dollar bill, but they stopped printing them in 1945. Madison had a longstanding rivalry with Patrick Henry.

James Madison was born on March 16, 1751, in Port Conway, Virginia to James Madison Sr. and Eleanor Rose Conway. He was the oldest of twelve. Six lived to adulthood: Francis, Ambrose, Nelly, William, Sarah, and Frances. Between the ages of eleven and eighteen, James Madison studied under a private tutor where he learned math, languages, and geography. He went to the University of New Jersey, what is now Princeton University. As a child, he was very sick, and was diagnosed with epilepsy.

Madison married Dolley Payne Todd. He had one stepson, John Payne Todd. James Madison was fifty- seven when he was inaugurated 4th president of the United States of America. He served 2 terms as president. 1809-1817. Both of his vice presidents, George Clinton and Elbridge Gerry, died in office. Madison never held a job outside of politics. James once lost an election because he didn’t give alcohol to voters.

In 1787, Madison attempted to write the Preamble to the Constitution. That is how he got his nickname, the Father of the Constitution. He took detailed notes during the Constitutional Convention. Madison was very good at compromising. If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have the Constitution.

Revolutionary War 1775-1783

Madison died on June 28, 1836, at 85 years and 104 days. He died at Montpelier, Virginia. James Madison was buried at the family plot at Montpelier, Virginia. His last words were, “I talk better lying down.”

I chose this topic because I think James Madison is an interesting person. I like James Madison because he showed strong leadership.
