Spurgeon's Academy Northbrook District 28's Sister School

For more than a decade, Northbrook District 28 families have supported the orphans of the Kibera slum in Nairobi who attend Spurgeon's Academy.

In July 2019, Ruben, Joli and Maya Fridman visited the school and delivered....

Chromebooks donated by Glenbrook North seniors;
letters from District 28 students, pencils and sports equipment for an aspiring student athlete.

Mrs. Fridman and Maya also spent time visiting with high school students sponsored with funds raised during the annual Family Fun Day fundraiser.

District 28 and the Fridmans, accompanied by Fred Outa, left, were honored in a televised ceremony at the Kenyan Parliament for the impact we have made in the lives of vulnerable students in Kenya!

This is the Kibera slum where the Spurgeon's Academy students live, often 10-12 people per hut.

About 450 students attend the school for kindergarten through 8th grade.

The lunchtime porridge that students receive may be their only meal of the day.

Family Letter-Writing Project

Students were extremely interested to read letters from District 28 students! Now it's time to write again! Think about things you may have in common, like your favorite subject in school, or something you can share with them, like what winter is like or how many brothers and sisters you have.

Create your letters on paper or electronically by Nov. 30

Bring paper letters to the school office, or email them to: tryan@northbrook28.net

The annual fundraiser will be held at Rockin' Jump in Buffalo Grove. Watch our e-news for more information in the coming months.
