There's Gold Down There photography by adam tavender

Imagine a fish as aggressive as the giant trevally. As high-jumping as a tarpon. That can weigh more than 50 pounds. And yet lives in small freestone rivers that could easily flow through British Columbia or New Zealand. Imagine a fish of the Amazon rain forest, carved from gold.
Golden dorado. Just the name sets an angler’s pulse racing. But this isn’t for the faint of heart. Wade-fishing the jungle rivers wearing rattlesnake gaiters to guard against stingrays. Weathering clouds of biting sandflies. All for a chance at the world’s most exciting freshwater fish.

Adam Tavender fished for Golden Dorado p g in the Andean foothills of Bolivia, within the Isiboro Secure National Park. The aquatic food chain centers on the sabalo, a tilapialike fish the natives hunt with a bow and the Golden Dorado hunt like packs of wolves.

Untamed Angling of Buenos Aires (www.untamedangling.com) manages two fishing camps, Secure Lodge and Pluma Lodge, with three days fishing provided at each. Adam booked his trip through Fly Water Travel in Ashland, Oregon (http://flywatertravel.com). For more of Adam’s photography, see www.adamtavender.com.
