Team Updates!

Drone team is doing very well and moving fast! We now have an AI that can recognize playing cards, and we're well on the way to first tests on our targeting prototypes. It'll be sometime before it has a poker face, but we're well on our way to getting that done! We are also pioneering our waypoint modeling algorithm for autonomous flight, and leading discussions on our airframe. Drone team meets on Thursday, from 6PM to 8PM, in SR 528. To join please go to https://discordapp.com/invite/cRducGp. We could always use more help!

This year we have started a Hobby Rocket Team which is geared towards people who want to learn how to launch and build rockets. This team is open to the entire student body and you don’t have to be a paid member to join. We will be holding an info session Tuesday, October 2 7-8pm, W205 Engineering Building Two. If you are interested, please RSVP through this quick google form! https://goo.gl/forms/9gJFy5jeU2XI5FZt2

Space City Rocketry is off to a great start! The team this semester is looking at nailing down and optimizing the best design by looking at each of the major components with individualized trade studies. Additionally, members practice their rocket building knowledge in simulation programs like Open Rocket in order to hone their own expectations of how designs function under real-life conditions.

Member Of The Month

Bernard Li is a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering. He founded the newly established Drone Team under AIAA-UH. The need for this team was born out of his love for flying. In his own words, “My favorite part is just being up there. I hate looking out the window and seeing a clear sky that I can't dive into, and seeing as some of my own drones don't reach that height I feel as if I'm landlocked unless I push my limits.” His goal for the drone team is to “build the University of Houston's largest and most advanced drone,” putting “UH as the face of the aerospace engineering field, and [he wants] to be able to demonstrate that we have the capabilities and resources far beyond what most people associate with our college.” Congratulations on the successful launch of drone team, Bernard! If you would like to nominate a member of AIAA to become member of the month, please email your nomination and a brief reason why to aiaacoogs.uh@gmail.com.

Sneak peak! Here's a look at our club t-shirts for this year!
