Weekly Reminders

Parent Teacher Conferences - October 27 & 28

  • Have your technology and Zoom link prepared and ready to go ahead of time for the virtual conference.
  • Be on time for your conference.
  • Write down any questions you want to ask your child's teacher ahead of time. You might even consider emailing your questions to your child's teacher prior to the conference to maximize your time together.
  • Focus on your child's strengths after the conference when you talk with your son or daughter.
  • If your child's teacher shares concepts that aren't learned YET, learning attitudes that need to be developed further, or behaviors that need encouragement or correction, please look at this with a growth mindset. It's important to share this message with your child in a positive manner that focuses on improvement, growth, and learning.

Half Days Due to Parent Teacher Conferences Wednesday, October 27 & Thursday, October 28

  • Plan ahead for half-days of school on Wednesday and Thursday. Please make plans to have your child picked up for dismissal at 12:29 PM.

Halloween Party & Parade Friday, October 29

  • Plan for your child to have a fun and safe Halloween costume on Friday. When choosing a Halloween costume for your child, please avoid costumes that have a horror or violence theme. Students may NOT bring toy guns, knives, or swords to school as part of their costumes. We ask that children wear costumes that they are able to put on themselves. Because students must wear safety masks indoors at all times, please take this into consideration when choosing a costume for your child. Costume masks do not replace safety masks required to be worn indoors. We suggest not having face paint or costumes that interfere with safety masks.
  • The Halloween Parade will be Friday, October 29 at 3pm. While only the lead room volunteers are able to attend the class parties, families are invited to line the track and watch the parade.

TSD Tutoring Program

Our school district has a tutoring program called TSD Tutors and is run through Enrichment. The cost is very affordable, $30/55 minutes or $27/50 minutes depending on the number of sessions purchased and is one-on-one tutoring. Our tutors are all mature and experienced retired teachers or teacher/paras currently working in our district. The days and times are flexible and are worked out between the tutor and parents. This program was created to support TSD classroom learning. We encourage the tutors to partner with classroom teachers to assist the students in the areas that the student needs support. Teachers frequently receive the request from parents to have access to the parent email list for their child's classroom. This information is available to you through PowerSchool Parent Portal. The information in the online directory will include student and parent names, addresses, phone numbers and email. It will ONLY be accessible to parents and students enrolled at that particular school (i.e. Hill families will be the only ones who can see the Hill directory.)

If you do want your child’s information to be included in the online directory, you do not have to do anything. However, if you do NOT want your child’s information to be included, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) allows you the opportunity to opt out. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) authorizes schools to disclose, without consent, "directory" information such as a student's name, address, and telephone number. However, schools must give parents:

  • general notice of the information designated as "directory information"
  • the right to opt out of these disclosures and the period of time they have to notify the school of their desire to opt out

  1. Log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal: https://ps.troy.k12.mi.us.
  2. Click Student Directory (left side menu)
  3. Select any of the available rows with checkboxes to hide from the directory.
  4. To opt out completely, put a checkmark next to Remove from student directory. This option will override any choice made on individual line items.
  5. Click Submit

Note: After publication of the student directory, parents are able to print or save the directory for themselves. Opting out of the directory after publication will not remove your information from older printed/saved copies kept by other parents.
