Conwy School Swimming Project

The Conwy School Swimming project have been working with 14 primary schools to deliver school swimming in a different way; Intensive Swimming Lessons.

Pupils in Year 6 at these schools have been taking part in a week’s intensive block of swimming lessons (every day for 45 minutes within a week). The reason for this change in swimming delivery is to establish whether this way of working has a greater contribution to ensuring that Conwy achieves its goal of every child being able to swim by the time they leave primary school.

Early indication shows that this delivery method is having a significantly positive impact upon pupils’ ability to swim.

Here are some of the schools data thus far following the week’s intensive block (in comparison to 2015/16 year end data):

The feedback received from all the schools has been overwhelmingly positive. These schools will also receive an extra week’s swimming intensive block during the Summer Term. We hope that an even greater percentage of pupils will have passed the swimming assessment following this additional week.
