Amanda Albelin July 1, 1996

To any random stranger on the street I'm just an ordinary person, but there's more to me than meets the eye . . .

I was born on July 1st, 1996 in Livingston, New Jersey. My parents, Maria and Tommy, are both Swedish citizens and whisked me and my older brother, Adam, away to our summer house in Skåne when I was just 10 days old.
For the first 5 years of my life, I grew up in Calgary, Alberta. I still remember spending weekends at the hot springs in Banff and watching coyotes cross the street on my way to pre-school.
My dad was a professional hockey player, so we moved around a couple of times. After our time in Calgary, we headed back to New Jersey and have been living there ever since. To me, it's home.
Every summer my family and I travel back to our house in the Swedish countryside. It's easily the best, most relaxing place I know and has so much to offer.
If I'm not in Skåne you can find my visiting my family members in Stockholm - my favorite city in the whole world.
When I'm not in Amherst, New Jersey, or Sweden, I'm most likely down in Florida spending time with my brother, Adam, who lives there. We always find something adventurous to do together, whether it be kayaking down Weeki Wachee River or swimming with manatees.
I absolutely love to travel, it's one of my favorite things to do. I've been to many states within the U.S., Sweden, Denmark, Canada, and Spain so far, but I plan to travel a lot more when I'm older. My dream destinations include: Paris, the Maldives, Switzerland, Italy, and Australia.
I'm also a huge animal lover and would adopt 15 dogs if I could . . .
As of right now, though, I'm busy studying sports journalism here at UMass Amherst. Since I've grown up in the world of sports, specifically hockey, I would love a career as a hockey writer or broadcaster.
