I Hate Everyone - By Get Set Go
The song "I Hate Everyone" by Get Set Go portrays Holden's hate for everyone around him. The theme of hating happens throughout the book many times showing how he could not stand people around him, "All the people on the street, I hate you all". One part of the book, Holden denies that he hates everything when Phoebe points out that he does. Even though Holden did not state it in the book, we can determine that he gets angry with everyone no matter what they do, "All I wanted to was buy some cigarettes But I couldn't take it anymore so I left I hate everyone".
Help! - by Beatles
The song "Help" by Beatles perfectly describes Holden's situation through the whole book. "Help! I need somebody, Help!" Throughout the book Holden seek for companionship, but even if he tries he gets declined. His inability to make connections with people is one of the reason why he is so depressed. "When I was younger so much younger than today I never needed anybody's help in any way." This problem happened after Allie died, After his death Holden had become a troubled child and difficulty moving on.
Under Pressure - by Queen
"Under Pressure" by Queen shows that Holden is always under a constant pressure in the entire book. He gets stressed out by it and almost drives him insane, "Pressure pushing down on me, Pressing down on you no man ask for, Under Pressure that burns a building down, Splits a family in two, Puts the people on streets". The pressure that Holden faces does put him on the "streets". The pressure builds up as the book continues until Holden could not take it anymore. "It's the terror of knowing, What this world is about". Holden is continuously haunted by his view of the world, that all adults are frauds.
Use Somebody- By Kings of Leon
"Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon easily relates to Holden's efforts to find a girl to connect with, "Someone like me, somebody". One event that happened in the book was that Holden attempt to make a relationship with a girl. He called up one girl, dance with another, and tried running away with another girl, "I've been roaming around, I was looking down at all I see Painted faces fill the places I can't reach.." He does this because he desires for someone to listen to him and also having interest of having a girlfriend.
My Immortal - By Evanescence
Listening to the tone of the music automatically conveys "sadness" and "pain". It expresses the feelings Holden has for another when losing a loved one. The song also makes you feel how much Holden has been through after Allie's death. "I wish that you would just leave, 'Cause your presence still lingers here and it won't leave me alone". Allie's death haunts Holden through the entire book. His death changes Holden's attitude towards people, the inability to move on, and growing up. Allie was one of Holden's favorite people and losing him was the most tragic thing to ever happen. "You used to captivate me By your resonating light Now I'm bound by the life you left behind", this reminds the love for his brother and Holden not able to move on with life.
