Monkton Park Newsletter 17th January 2019

The outdoor classroom is nearly there! This week they have been doing the finishing touches, adding a ramp and putting up some guttering. The final stage will be putting in a woodchip barrier around the classroom and adding the woodchip itself. We're hoping to do a grand opening when the weather warms up a bit and we are on the lookout for someone to officially open the structure.

Star Writer

As part of our Year of Writing, we are pleased to announce the launch of our Star Writer initiative. Each week, teachers will select children who have shown engagement and enthusiasm in writing tasks and these children will be given a Star Writer rucksack or folder. These contain lots of tools and ideas for writing including: glitter pens, pencils, gel pens, postcards, speech bubbles, post-its, comic strips, stencils and much more. Please remind the children to return the packs to their teacher by the following Thursday to share what they have done. Many thanks for your support with this.

School Uniform

Please can we remind parents that the children are expected to wear sensible dark footwear to school. We have an increasing number of children wearing trainers which are not permitted. As the weather gets colder, if your child is wearing snow-boots, please can you provide shoes for the children to change into.

Similarly, we are seeing hairbands taking the form of animals with ears or over -large bows. Please can simple hair accessories be worn. Finally a reminder that nail varnish is not allowed and earrings should be plain gold/silver studs or sleepers.

Open Classrooms

On Wednesday 23rd January we will be holding Open Classrooms. You are welcome into your child's classroom between 3 & 4pm to spend some time seeing what they have been learning.

Clubs

All clubs start next week apart from Lego club, which due to Open Classrooms, will start the following week.

FOMPS fundraising this year will be mostly focused on raising money for an Amphitheatre area on the field and to landscape the early-years outdoor area. This will support the school in providing further areas for the children to perform, play and learn outside.
