Henry the Explorer
With support from Prince Henry the Navigator the Portuguese sailed to the Azores as well as the Canary Islands.
In 1415 the Portuguese's ships contacted the West African coast.
In 1445 they went to the westernmost region of the continent.
In 1474 they cruised through and passed the equator.
In 1448 they came to the Cape of Good Hope near southern point of Africa.
The fleet of the European landed in India.
These were not journeys of conquest but of trade and exploration.
The ambassador to the king of Portugal was Gama.
Kings of Portugal had such a vast amount of wealth.
