Marie Antoinette Executed! Joelys A. Lopez

About Marie Antoinette

Marie was not originally from France. Antoinette was born in Vienna, Austria on November 2, 1775. Marie Antoinette got married to King Louis XVI when she was only 15 years old. The new queen of France soon became the icon of wealth and luxury of the French nobility.

"Let Them Eat Cake.."

The people of France, specifically the Third Estate, were furious with the ways of the nobility. Many people were left without food, while the monarchs continued to live lavishly. The citizens were being taxed without representation in the government. While the people began to rebel, King Louis XVI tried to restore peace by meeting with the Estates-General to create a constitution. When the monarchs rejected the constitution, the revolution began to unwind. King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette fled to Versailles to avoid being executed by their subjects. The monarchs were later captured and forced to return to Paris where King Louis was tried and executed. Several months later, Marie was put on trial and was found guilty of treason. Marie Antoinette was sent to the guillotine where she was beheaded in front of a large crowd.

What Will the Future Bring?

One can only wonder what will become of France now that the monarchy has come crumbling down. Who will take over power next? Will the third Estate ever get a say in government? Will France ever regain its strength? Only time will tell...
