Future Growth Plan is Approved by MVCSC School Board

At the March MVCSC School Board Meeting, I had the honor of presenting the Future Growth Plan that the MV Community Champions worked so hard to develop. I am pleased to share that the School Board unanimously passed the 10-year Future Growth Plan that will see Mt. Vernon through its imminent growth. Within the next 10 years, the Future Growth Plan will have us:

  • Converting Fortville Elementary School (FES) back into an intermediate school and replacing FES with either new construction or a complete renovation with additions to the current administration building (which is the former FES building).
  • We will also be building additional classrooms at the future intermediate school (current FES building) as well as the high school and middle school to manage increased enrollment.

I would like to sincerely thank all our community members that participated and shared their thoughts in developing the future of Mt. Vernon. The future is bright for our Marauders! See the Future Growth Plan website article HERE for details.

Delayed Start/Early Release Survey & Town Hall Virtual Meetings

You might remember that in January, the principals asked the board to consider delaying buses on Wednesday so that students won’t come to school early while teachers are working in their Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Another option would be to have an early release instead of a delayed start. The information that was presented is compelling and we launched a survey for parents to provide input. If you haven't already, please share your thoughts on this topic through this PARENT SURVEY. Deadline to participate is April 5!

Due to the current mandate from the governor to stay at home, MVCSC will be offering our Town Hall Meetings virtually to discuss Delayed Start/Early Release with our parents. We will be offering five virtual Zoom meetings for the first 25 people who sign up at each meeting. We have to limit the meetings to 25 parents/guardians in order to facilitate an effective interaction. If you want to attend, ask questions, and share your thoughts, please click the links below by April 5 and sign up for only one meeting below:

Transfer/Out-of-District Application

Students who live out-of-district and wish to transfer into Mt. Vernon Schools must complete an online application during either of the designated windows listed below. Also, all students who are currently attending a Mt. Vernon school and do not live within the school district boundaries are also required to submit an application during either of these selected windows to attend during the 2020-2021 school year. As I previously shared, once you are a Mt. Vernon student/family, those students who submit an application will remain part of the Mt. Vernon family, unless there are major discipline or attendance issues. Please see our website for details and the application. Mark your calendars to apply during:

Saturday, April 18th at noon through Sunday, April 26 at noon

- or -

Saturday, May 9th at noon through Sunday, May 17th at noon

Congrats to Last Year's McCordsville Elementary 5th Grade Art Students who Achieved a Guinness World Record of the Largest God's Eye

MES Art Teacher, Terry Trowbridge, was on a mission with his 5th grade students last year to make the world's largest God's Eye. They recently found out from Guinness World Records that the 12 ft. 6.5 in. God's Eye they created had indeed become the world's largest!

Special thanks to our community professionals who provided the necessary official measurement and witnesses needed to submit the application.

Congrats to McCordsville Elementary's Mr. Trowbridge and the 2018-2019 fifth grade art students on becoming official world record holders!

Stay Connected to Your MV Community!

MVCSC knows staying connected to each other is a challenge right now. Let's have some fun and share how we are doing with our community. MVCSC will be hosting a social media challenge each week, and for those parents/guardians and staff that are willing, share how your are making the best of this situation in the daily challenge! Be sure to tag #WeRMV and the district's social media in your post!
