Arctic birds 2020 25.03 - 31.03 31.03 - 06.04 Varanger

Early spring in northern Norway and the Arctic birds returns to their breeding grounds. Join WildPhoto Norway in a unique and customized photo tour, focusing on arctic bird photography in the most accessible part of the arctic hemisphere

During this trip in the Varanger area you will get some amazing meetings with the arctic wildlife. Varanger is the most northeasterly part of Norway, bordering Russia and easily accessible with flights each day from Oslo. Due to the arctic location, birds arrive when there is still very good chances for snow in the bird cliffs, perfect conditions for photography. We are based in Vardø, a beautiful, cozy fishing village. We will stay at Vardø Hotel and have direct access to the amazing Hornøya bird cliff, which houses around 100.000 nesting birds during the breeding season. In addition we will have our own custom built boat for photographers. After a busy day in the bird cliff of Hornøya or a day in the boat we return to the hotel for a nice dinner in the hotel restaurant. During the trip we also offer two unique snorkeling sessions with the sea birds, giving you very good photo opportunities!

Weather in Northern Norway can be rough, therefore we need a flexible itinerary to be able to change plans according to weather conditions. If we have days with a lot of wind we may not be able to reach out to the bird cliff of Hornøya, but we still have boat available so we can do photography sessions with King and Steller Eider from the sheltered harbor. We also have available cars taking us around to see and photograph the amazing arctic landscape in Varanger. During the evenings we will keep a close look at the sky for the aurora borealis, the northern lights.
