Very few things are able to chronicle life at a university like photographs. Images freeze moments in time — be they momentous or mundane — in a way that can transport people back to when the shutter clicked. The following images are some of the highlights from 2016, pulled from our daily photo feature, In Focus. From major events to everyday campus life and shots that our photographers couldn't resist around town, these images tell the story of Tulane through their lens.

Marquee events

Saying goodbye to graduates and welcoming new students are usually the two biggest events of the year, but 2016 offered another opportunity to celebrate — the inauguration of President Mike Fitts.

Inauguration

Members of the Tulane community gathered in McAlister Auditorium to officially recognize and welcome Mike Fitts as the 15th President of Tulane University.

The convocation ceremony is a celebration that introduces first-year students to all things Tulane with a sweet shot of New Orleans flavor.

Around town

It's nearly impossible to talk about Tulane and not talk about New Orleans. The university is not just in New Orleans, it is an integral part of the city. Often our photographers are out around town and find a shot that needs to be shared. From the river to the lake, uptown to the French Quarter, New Orleans is a photographer's paradise.

Athletics

The student-athletes that make up the Green Wave teams are ambassadors of the university, wearing the school colors with pride to represent Tulane on the field and off.
