COLOUR PAINTING COLOUR AS SUBJECT

Sketch of idea for painting

This image shows a photo of a student working, and I am trying to paint a large painting using this photo as inspiration. It is made using layers of egg tempera with colour as the subject on a full sheet of illustration board.

Layered black for the background mixed with charcoal and egg yolk and softened the edges of the circles with a layer of grey. Three layers of black for the background

Up close photo of inspiration

Painted in the circles adding more colour as they go towards the top of the work.

Decided in colour for the hat and started to colour it in.

Decided to add a bit of colour to the face and hands and layered more colour on the hat

Activated the lines with grey brushstrokes and add some sgraffito in the top black line and had the colour circles leak down the painting. It is about inspiration and finding ideas.
