In Step A publication of Decatur School of Ballet – Fall, 2018

Decatur City Dance

Did you know that Decatur School of Ballet has a resident performing dance company? Decatur City Dance is in its 66th season. Over 50 Decatur School of Ballet students have reached an elite level of dance and have been selected through an audition process to be members of the company. Dancers who excel in ballet, jazz, modern and tap make up the 4 student groups – Apprentice Ensemble, Junior Ensemble, BareGrounds and Junior Rhythm Keepers. Also under the company umbrella are the Rhythm Keepers, an adult tap company, as well as AboutFace, the professional contemporary and jazz company. Decatur City Dance is a not for profit organization which is solely funded by dues, donations and grants. To kick off the 66th season dancers performed at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta and the High Museum of Art. On the weekend of November 10th and 11th, the Junior and Apprentice Ensembles will present “Classic 2 Contemporary” at Druid Hills High School. Please call 404-378-3388 or go to decaturcitydance.org for more information or to donate.

Summer Intensives, Camps and Classes

It is never too early to start thinking about summer. We hope you will put dance in your summer plans. Dancers who dance during the summer retain more information from the previous season and grow in strength, knowledge and endurance, as well as have the enjoyment of dance without sharing it with the rigor of academic requirements. Summer classes are listed on our website, decaturballet.com.

It’s news to us – We would like to put your news on our bulletin board. If you share it, we will post it!

Please welcome our new faculty members Sterling McClary (Hip Hop) and Monique Wimby (Creative Movement; Ballet). We are happy to have you here!

A Fond Farewell

After 38 years of dedicated ownership, Ron and Kathleen Everett have retired and sold the business to Ms. Leslie. Retiring with them, Mary Frances Banks, who is Ms. Kathleen’s mother, kept us in order and was a mother to all. We will miss all three of you and wish you a wonderful retirement!
