Era of Good Feelings By: Nolan Riley

The Ohio RIver split the east and the west

America is a place of freedom and peace. Unless you're talking about the economy. The east are stereotyping the west as lazy. The west stereotyped the west as greedy and only interested if they make a quick buck. They are against each other because they have different life styles. If they want to be unified they have to come together. "When tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers, therefore are the founders of human civilization." - Daniel Webster

dept couldn't be paid by the farmers

The economy is struggling because they are not able to make money. During the war farmers were growing crops to give to the soldiers; but after the war farmers couldn't sell crops. One farmer named Shay; started a rebellion because the farmers couldn't pay of loans they got to grow the crops. "The spectors of debtors jail... hovered close by." - Daniel Shay

The house of Rep. is run by 435 members

The government is run by a council of 435 members in the house of representatives. The leader is a president by the name of Andrew Jackson. The Supreme Court has a board of 9 members. They make decisions that affect the whole country instead of one ruler like king Louis-Philippe. They have had many presidents before Mr. Jackson. " You must pay the price if you wish to secure your blessing" - Andrew Jackson

Portrait of George Washington the nation's first president

George Washington was the general for the Americans during the Revolutionary War. He was elected president after the Americans won the war. They became an official, independent country after the victory. He sadly died from a cold he got one morning after a horse ride. "It's far better to be alone than in bad company." - George Washington

The American art is of five types of art. Folk art, portraits, geographical art, species art, and Native American art. My personal favorite type of is folk art. They make many carvings of animals or ships. The American flag was made by a folk artist. The flag was made by folk artist because; the the people fighting the war were common folk. "Paint what you see and look wit your own eyes." - Gilbert Stuart

Slaves were kept on a tight leash and always being watched.

Minstrel music is very disrespectful to me. Singing about the struggles of being an African-American is wrong. Slaves have it hard because they are working nonstop. If they are free they have to get a document that says they are free. "I freed thousands of slaves. I could have freed thousands more if I knew they were slaves." - Harriet Tubman

Ballroom dancing is a typical style of dancing in classical music

The music in America the music is based on social class. The high social classes listen to classical music. They dance to the classic music. Patriots like Samuel Adams listen to patriotic music like you would here in pubs. And slaves, they would sing spirituals while they were working in the field picking cotton or planting crops. Slave owners would sing and listen to minstrel songs. The songs would make fun of the way slaves spoke, looked, and the clothes they would wear. "Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy." Ludwig Beethoven

Washington Irving is the author of Rip Van Winkle

Literature in America is fantastic. My personal favorite is Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving. They have poets, tall tales, geographical stories, and autobiographies. Davy Crockett was a woodsman and hunter. He wrote about his experiences in the autobiography. "Love is never lost. If not reciporated, it will flow back and soften and purifey the heart". - Washington Irving

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is the author of The Song of Haiwatha

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is poet who writes about the growth of the nation. He had once wrote a poem The Song of Hiawatha that had said, " Who at the bridge would be first to fall, Who that day would be lying dead, Pierced by a British musket ball." James Fenimore Cooper who wrote the The Pioneer about men who had been exploring the wilderness finding what their heart had desired. "The best thing to do when it's raining is to let it rain." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
