How God Speaks A Bible Study

God loves speaking to us, and He knows how to get through to us. As the Creator of languages, God alone knows how to communicate perfectly to every person. He is not confined to any one specific way of communicating. Let's look at different ways in which God speaks.

Psalm 19:1-4 - The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. (NIV)

Name a time when God has spoken to you through the beauty of his creation.

2 Timothy 3:16 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NIV)

Through which passage in the Bible has God often spoken to you? What is your favourite part of the Bible?

Read Exodus 18:13-24. How did God speak to Moses?

Acts 13:1-4 - In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. (NIV)

How or when did God speak to the church at Antioch? How can you position yourself to hear God more consistently?

Hebrews 1:1-2 - In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. (NIV)

God speaks in a very personal way. He sent His Son, Jesus, to speak with people face-to-face. He is not a distant God, but He comes very close. "The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." (John 1:14). That is Jesus.

John 14:26-27 - But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (NIV)

It's important to remember that Someone is actually talking to us. The Holy Spirit is a real person... not an atmosphere or a presence around us. Don't just seek to hear a voice. Seek the person - the Holy Spirit.
