Stroll, Scoot & Sip #Exploredding

An early morning walk on the Sacramento River National Recreation Trail across the Santiago Calatrava designed Sundial Bridge is a peaceful way to start the day. Either stroll along the trail or through the tranquil McConnell Arboretum and Botanical Gardens located on the north end of the bridge.

Left to Right: Enjoy the Store, Dandelion, and Carousel

Then it is time to step-up the pace by hopping on a rental WOLF scooter (you can pick one up just about anywhere in Redding) and travel into downtown for a little shopping: Enjoy the Store, Dandelion and Carousel are nice choices. I can’t leave Enjoy without buying something that catches my eye; the locally produced items are too good to pass up. Dandelion is a women’s clothing store that has something for every age group, including candles and home décor. Carousel’s style is hip for the most discerning tastes but don’t let that sway you as the styles are classic for all ages.

The scooters are a fun way to travel all over to do some sightseeing. You might want to take them back to the River Trail for a longer look at why it is considered a national recreational trail – it rarely leaves the view of the river. End your travels with a facial at Amarte’ Salon in downtown, you’ll certainly be surprised. If you’ve never had one, it is a delectable experience. That should leave you a little time to freshen-up before your evening.

End your Day

A little wine tasting in the heart of Redding at Moseley Wine Cellars off Mountain Lakes Blvd is a nice way to start an evening out. After a start to some wine tasting, you can continue by heading out to wherever you prefer to have dinner, or you can have the staff at Moseley Family Cellars make a dinner reservation for you at either Café Paradisio, Market Street Blade & Barrel or Karline’s.

Café Paradisio is small in size but huge in flavor; I suggest going with a glass of their House White wine from France and order whatever the Chef’s special is – I’ve never been disappointed and it’s fun to be surprised. If you know you want a steak, try the new Market Street Blade & Barrel. Start with a Manhattan before dinner, pair your New York steak with a Syrah and don’t turn your nose up at the baked potato as a side. Karline’s is an Italian treat and you can’t go wrong with any of the pastas, but the pesto takes the cake. And speaking of dessert, I would leave room for the tiramisu.

I like to start all of this off fairly early so I can plan to end the evening at the Redding Civic Auditorium, Cascade Theatre or Axiom Theatre for productions which may be playing. If I can’t find a show I like at one of those, I head over to Vintage Public House across from the Cascade Theatre for dessert, a nice cocktail and possibly live music. Dessert twice in one day is my idea of a perfect Day!
