An overview of Genesis Clinic Bringing a child into the world is one of life’s most incredible and empowering experiences!

At Genesis Maternity Clinic we are grateful for the privilege of taking part in the miracle of a new life entering into the world. We believe in a woman’s ability to create and nurture life and that giving birth is a natural, healthy life experience. We therefore provide care and support to mothers-to-be and their partners throughout the pregnancy, birth and after the birth of their child.
What is Midwifery-led Care?

You have all the access to all of the same examinations, testing, supervision, and referrals that would be available under the care of an Obstetrician.

Antenatal care with midwives features consultations with ample opportunity to ask questions and further your education, a compassionate, trusting relationship with your team and committed breastfeeding support. At the same time, midwifery care includes careful monitoring and nurturing of the well-being of both mother and baby antenatally, during the birth, and throughout the postnatal period.

Did you know that women who give birth under the care of a midwife are more likely to have:
  • Lower rates of birth by Caesarean Section.
  • Lower rates of induced labour.
  • Significantly lower rates of third and fourth degree tears from delivery and less episiotomy rates.
  • Higher success of breastfeeding.
Research for Evidence Based Midwifery-led Care.

With the medicalised model of birth that dominates today, we sometimes lose our perspective on this incredible milestone in the life of a woman and her family. It is possible to ensure the safe delivery of a child into this world while remaining respectful of the powerful emotional and spiritual aspects of childbirth.

Our team of medical professionals, who are on standby, ready to intervene, should the need arise.

Scheduled antenatal consultations with an Obstetrician/ OBGYN.

You will have approximately two to three antenatal consultations with a Genesis affiliated Obstetrician. Your OBGYN is also your surgeon in case a caesarean section is needed, this procedure will be done at our on-site state-of-the-art operating theatre. Our team of medical professionals are always on standby, in case of an emergency. Obstetrician fees must be settled directly with the obstetrician and the anaesthetist.

On-site theatre

If complications arise, whilst you are in labour, clients will be taken to our on-site theatre for the procedure will be done by the OB/GYN along with the Anaesthetist, Paediatrician and medical team. The Midwives will remain part of the care in a supportive role. We have all the proper procedures and equipment available to deal with any medical emergency. Obstetrician fees must be settled directly with the Obstetrician and the Anaesthetist.

Paediatricians

It is customary for each newborn to be checked by our Paediatrician before going home. Our resident Paediatrician is present at Genesis Clinic every day, and is available for daily checkups for all newborn babies born at Genesis Maternity Clinic, and has the full support of locum Paediatricians who will be available after hours and over weekends.

Starting your maternity care at Genesis Clinic.

A midwife is your main caregiver for your antenatal consultations and well as the birth of your baby. You will need to choose to have your antenatal consultations and birth with either an independent midwife in private practice or the staff in-house midwives. This is so she can assess you as having a low risk pregnancy, so you can continue your antenatal care and to birth at Genesis Clinic. Antenatal consultations usually get booked from week 16 of pregnancy.

What is the difference between choosing to birth with an Independent Midwife or the Staff Midwives?

Choosing to birth with an Independent Midwife.

Genesis Maternity Clinic is a base for a host of Independent Midwives. An Independent Midwife works in her own private practice, with birthing rights at Genesis Maternity Clinic.

Choosing an Independent Midwife is based on contacting a few midwives, so you can find someone with whom you connect with and grow a relationship with throughout your maternity care and for the birth of your baby. Independent Midwives also offer a more one-on-one care in that she will be the one person you go to for all your antenatal consultations and will be your midwife at the birth of your baby. Please note that their rates are charged separately from the Genesis facility fees as they are in private practice.

“Women’s bodies have their own wisdom, and a system of birth refined over 100,000 generations is not so easily overpowered.” ~ Sarah Buckley
Choosing to birth with the Genesis Staff /In-House Midwives

When you choose to birth with the Genesis Staff/In-House Midwives, one of the appointed midwives will provide antenatal care throughout your pregnancy and the In-House Midwife on duty will assist you with the labour and birth of your baby. When you choose the Staff/In-House Midwives you will not be able to choose a specific midwife, as the Midwife on duty on the day of your antenatal consultation or the day that you labour and birth, will be available to assist you.
