NITTANY LIONS TOP NORTH FLORIDA 87-72 2018 NIT Championship Banner Unveiled Prior to Season Opener

The Nittany Lions opened up the 2018-19 campaign with an 87-72 victory over visiting North Florida – and got plenty of players involved offensively. Four Nittany Lions (Lamar Stevens, Josh Reaves, Rasir Bolton and Myles Dread) finished in double digits, with Stevens leading the charge with his third career double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

The 87-point total vs. the Ospreys is the highest in a season opener in the Coach Patrick Chambers era, replacing the 86 points scored vs. Campbell in the 2016-17 opener.

True freshman guard Myles Dread had a hot hand early and sizzled in his Penn State debut with 17 points, including four three pointers.

There were plenty of notable names and faces in the crowd Friday evening to cheer on the Nittany Lions and celebrate the team's 2018 NIT Championship.

Listen to Coach Patrick Chambers' comments on the opening night victory – including what he had to say about the electric crowd at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Stat Line of the Night

Lamar Stevens led the way Friday night with 18 points by halftime and finishing the evening with 22 points, his 16th career game with 20 or more points. Stevens was a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe.

To cap off an exciting start to the 2018-19 season, the Nittany Lions were honored for their 2018 NIT Championship during Penn State Football's matchup with Wisconsin at Beaver Stadium on Saturday.
