A Note from a Traveler For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation

Hello FPS Supporters!

I cannot thank this company enough for this fabulous gift! My children and I are beyond stoked for the lasting memories we will be creating. A week away from my reality is worth more than words can explain. My world is based on treatment, blood work, scans, tests, stress etc...nothing like a getaway to relax the mind. When I was nominated, I cried for the rest of the day, thinking to myself "I must have done something good in my life that I've been given a chance to get away with my children if chosen."

Kelly with her children, Sincere and Essence.

My world was completely turned upside down when I was given a cancer diagnosis. When told, my heart went to my feet, thinking I was given a death sentence. I soon came to realize that curve balls come in our direction we just need to learn how to catch them. Well, in saying so, I caught this curve and have been doing my best to weather it ever since. Despite not having a cure for this disease, (Stage 4 Breast Cancer with mets) my fight to win still remains the same! I refuse to lose but always aim to win.

I truly thought nothing could trump losing a child (our son). In 2013, our 19yr old at the time, was murdered. Trying to build your world back up from the ground that it crumbled on was one heck of a challenge. With the grace of God, we were able to view the rainbow and enjoy the sunshine again sometime after. We miss him every day and have been blessed with him for 19yrs. I thought life would never be the same, and how could one weather the loss of a child until faced with this illness. Inspired by believing in God and how powerful his work is, I am now able to view life in a whole new way. I promised my son that I will live life to its fullest all while regretting nothing. Realizing my time may be limited my outlook on life is skies the limit.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email and for your time and patience. When asked for a family picture to add to my story, it inspired me to add a personal touch for that one person that may be down on their luck. Understanding we all share the same 24 hours in a day, just because one may be faced with darkness today doesn't mean the sun doesn't shine again thereafter. Have a blessed day...

Kelly Walker, FPS Traveler.

Kelly will travel to the FPS Respite Vacation Home in Florida in May 2017 with her children and her mom.
