TESCO - TIMELINE Building a superstore for the people of consett

February 2011

Work begins to clear the former steel works site so that tens of thousands of cubic metres of soil can be professionally treated as part of the land reclamation process.

The actual site for the store itself...

This will create the perfect foundations for the superstore construction.

The gulls are also happy for the opportunity to grab an easy meal.

The process involves removing soil down to a prescribed depth, crushing it into finer particles and removing unwanted materials.

The surrounding area is also processed in preparation for landscaping work near the end of the project.

August 2012

The site is almost ready for groundworks to begin.

November 2012 - Steelwork is erected while final groundworks are completed.

January 2013

Having completed the reclamation work, Absolute Civil Engineering won the contract to complete the groundworks and external works which included the substructure, drainage, services, car parks, feature walls and landscaping packages.

The store uses an innovative timber/steel hybrid frame with larch cladding. Work begins to erect the timber sections to the existing steel framework.

April 2013

Drainage and services construction takes place.

May 2013

Larch cladding and glass panels are installed.

And the store interior starts to take shape.

And external final touches are added.

The new £2.5m store is one of their new generation of eco- stores which cut’s energy usage by recycling rainwater for toilets, using wind to provide ventilation and air conditioning, natural light and eco-friendly building materials.

October 2013

The finishing touches are completed.
