Is Print Dead? Sara monroe

Sense the birth of the internet people have been whispering that print is dead, but it's far from dead or dying. However there is no indication that print is dying at all. In fact commercial print is on the rise. The Commerce Department found that printing shipments in August 2015 exceeded $7 billion in market value.

Print company's and organizations are adding services to what they are already doing to expand their business and to offer their customer new and even up and coming services. Such as:

  • Design
  • Display
  • Interactive media
  • Branding
  • Finishing
  • Embossing
  • New print coatings
  • High quality paper
  • Direct mail

To name a few.

Color has also advanced. Its has become easier to mach color successfully through new techniques and new technology. This is important when branding you want to make sure that all your colors match perfectly. For example if Coke red was not matched through out their branding it would be quite confusing for the consumer.

Everyone knows the color standards of CMYK and RGB but there are new and more extensive profiles that are being used and created that are slowly inserting themselves into the industry. Such as: SWOP, GRACol, G7, CIELAB, CIE XYZ. Just to name a few. For now the industry is sticking with CMYK and RGB.
