While visiting Orvieto, a wonderful Italian hill town, Ruth and I went for a stroll around town. Upon reaching the Piazza del Duomo (the square in front of the Duomo or Cathedral), there were barricades up for some type of parade, a crowd was gathering, and we soon heard police sirens, and an array of cars, mostly Mercedes and Ferraris, came by, waving to the crowd and taking pictures.
It turned out to be a re-creation of the old Italian road race, the Mille Miglia. In this iteration the cars drove a prescribed route all over Italy in about three days, with time trials and parades. We were fortunate enough to catch the Orvieto stop. There were far more cars than I could capture, as we moved on after about an hour of watching.
