Optimal Focus Photography Beth Young's unique vision of nature photography

Low lying fog on the Yosemite Valley floor perfectly aligning the tree line at the base of Bridalveil Fall in Yosemite National Park on a clear winter day. www.optimalfocusphotography.com
Cathedral Rocks towering over a small amount of frazil ice near the shore of the Merced River. This is one of my favorite locations to photograph; sadly, my photos from this exact location a year ago do not exhibit they dying trees caused by bark beetles as is clearly evidenced this year. Hopefully, the precipitation we received this year will slow the progress of this disease affecting the Sierra's majestic pine trees. www.optimalfocusphotography.com
My greatest inspiration is chasing the best quality of light and sharing the beauty of the natural world.

My focus is nature photography for healthcare settings to alleviate the stress of patients, their families and caregivers, and help improve patient outcomes in clinical settings.

As an Evidenced Based Design (EDAC) certified, and licensed design professional, I have a unique understanding of the technical aspects of artwork in clinical settings, as well as evidenced based design principles in nature photography.
Every chance I get, you’ll find me hooking up my little teardrop camp trailer to hit the road and capture the nuances of light and weather in the West Coast's most majestic settings.
Black oak trees on the Yosemite Valley floor take on a special beauty when dusted with freshly fallen snow. This is at El Capitan meadow, just as the morning sun in the upper left of the frame was dipping behind Cathedral Rocks, creating an overexposed section of the photo that I quite liked. Black Oak acorns are important to the diets of various animals in the park, including bears, deer, woodpeckers, and squirrels. www.optimalfocusphotography.com

A kaleidoscope of autumn color in the tangled brush at the feet of these majestic aspens in Lee Vining Canyon. www.optimalfocusphotography.com
One of the first shots from my new EF 100-400 mm L series lens; I'm amazed at the sharpness of this lens considering I was shooting handheld and my triceps were literally shaking under the weight. It is heartening to see so much water thundering in Yosemite Falls; in the winter, the rising morning sun makes for beautiful rainbows on a clear day. www.optimalfocusphotography.com
Robust precipitation in the Yosemite Valley made for beautiful sunrise reflections in Cook's Meadow on a cold winter morning. www.optimalfocusphotography.com
