How To Construct a Popsicle Stick Bridge By: Erica Frankenhoff

Materials: Popsicle Sticks, Elmer's Glue, Rubber Bands, Foam or Boxes (if necessary)

Triangles

Step 1: Take 2 popsicle sticks and create a wide V shape.

Step 2: Glue the 2 popsicle sticks together at the point of the V.

Step 3: Glue another stick to close off the V to make it into an equilateral triangle.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3, 14 times and let the triangles dry.

Green highlighted area is a guide line on how your triangles should look.

X's

Step 1: Put glue in the center of a popsicle stick.

Step 2: Cross over another stick over the stick with glue at an angle to create an X shape.

Step 3: Repeat steps 1 & 2 18 times and let the X's dry.

Step 4: Take 2 X's and glue them end to end.

Step 5: Keep gluing X's end to end until you have 9 connected to each other.

Step 6: Repeat steps 4 & 5 until you have two rows of 9 X's and let dry.

Green highlighted area represents how your rows of X's should look.

Sides

Step 1: Take two triangles and set them side by side with the points touching.

Step 2: Take a popsicle stick and glue the popsicle stick in the middle where the 2 triangles meet.

Step 3: Repeat steps 1 & 2 until you have a row of 7 triangles connected together. Let dry.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3 until you have 2 rows of 7 triangles. Let dry.

Green highlighted area represents where your sticks should overlap over your triangles.

Step 5: Glue together 7 popsicle sticks end to end in a horizontal line. Let dry.

Step 6: Repeat step 5 until you have 2 rows of 7 sticks.

Step 7: Glue 1 of your rows of 7 sticks to the top of one of your rows of 7 triangles. Let dry.

Step 8: Glue your other row of 7 sticks to the top of your other row of 7 triangles. Let dry.

Green highlighted area is where your row of 7 sticks should go.

Assembling

Step 1: Take a row of triangles and a row of X's and set them up perpendicular to each other.

Step 2: Tie rubber bands around the base of the triangles and sides of the X's until the triangles and X's are connected together with rubber bands.

Step 3: Set up the other row of triangles parellel to the first row of triangles.

Step 4: Repeat step 2.

How your bridge should look before your top row of X's.

Step 5: Use glue to secure both rows of triangles to base of X's. Let dry.

Step 6: Set the second row of X's on top of your bridge, parallel to the base of X's.

Step 7: Use rubber bands to tie the top row of X's to your bridge.

Step 8: Use glue to secure the top row of X's to the rest of your bridge. Let dry.

Caution: You may put a box or some foam inside your bridge, if need be, to ensure that your bridge remains stable and in shape while drying.

Step 9: If a box or some foam was used, carefully remove.

Step 10: Cut off all the rubber bands.

Congratulations! You have completed your popsicle stick bridge.

Your finished product!
