School Closure · Cierre del colegio

As you are aware, the Junta de Andalucia have confirmed that our school should close for the next two weeks. These measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. As soon as we have any further information, we will inform you immediately. However, we will still be working so that our students can continue their studies through distance learning. You will receive more detailed information on Monday. Our telephone numbers and e-mail addresses will remain fully operational.

Head Students

We would like to end this week on a positive note and introduce our Head Students from Year 12 who have important roles in school. Let´s hear what they have to say.

Harald S - Head of Communication

As the Head Communication, my job is to keep track of and take care of providing information to the students about a variety of things (such as what us head students are working on and planning to do). This means that anything related to presentations, assemblies and what we put in the bulletin (when we put something) is led by me. It is my duty to make sure the students understand and are aware of any changes we have planned so they can give us feedback.

Leen B - Head of Events

As Head Student of Events, my goal is to organise as many events as possible. These events can be anything from charity events to proposing desired school trips. This role requires excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.

Erik S - Head of Learning

The Head of Learning role consists of ensuring that students get the most out of their lessons. This requires that students do not have a passive role of simply reading or copying new information, but that they are challenged and have to think for themselves.

As the Head of Learning, I will be responsible for giving feedback on how students and teachers alike can enable such an environment to establish a more independent and self-sufficient mindset, which will be very beneficial in their future studies at universities.

Jorge C - Head of Student Relations

As head of student relations, I am the link between the communities inside the school. This means that I will be the person to go to for the students if they have a suggestion or complaint. I will regularly meet with the higher ups to inform them on people's opinions. This will make communication faster and more effective. Finally I will divulge any information needed to the student body. Meet Primary School Council on Friday.Making effective links between Primary and Secondary.

Weekly News

KS3 Science Week

It is Science Week and in Year 7 and 8 students discussed how we know how old the planet is and what evidence there is. They also explored the work of Mary Anning, a palentologist. Students are eagerly watching eggs as they grow and eventually hatch from their shells in about 15 days’ time. Today was the first time that we could properly check that they had been fertilised and that they were growing. In order to see if the eggs had been fertilised students were looking for a small black spot and any red “spiderlike” lines which shows the development of the blood vessels. This process is called “candling” and we can confirm that today we saw that all 6 of the eggs are viable and all show signs of life. Whoopee!

¡Maravilloso!

Primary Science Week

As part of our science topic we have been learning about different classifications of animals. One of the classifications we have been looking at is invertebrates.

During our science day, we looked at the different habitats that invertebrates live in. We learned that different insects like to live in different environments. For example, snails like cool, dark and damp places and ants like to live in dry, warm places. After we had looked at the different habitats we chose 3 or 4 insects that we would like to build a bug hotel for.

We then went outside to gather plants, twigs, moss, acorns, sand and soil so that we could build a bug hotel to put in the secret garden somewhere. Here are some examples of our bug hotels, let’s see which insects we can attract!
