Weekend of January 7, 2019

Snow Day Sledding

Students that are on campus can "rent" sleds from the front desk to go sledding on the back hill of the Academy.

To rent a sled, a student must leave a shoe or their cellphone at the reception desk in exchange for a sled. Also, students will need to sign the sleds in and out of the building.

  • Sled rentals will be cancelled if there are poor weather conditions or notice of outdoor hazards.
Sledding ends at 5:00 pm each day. All sleds will need to be return to the school reception desk.

Salem Academy is continuing its tradition of serving others in our community. However, this year’s Day of Service will be in partnership with Salem College. There will be a Academy & College service day kickoff in the morning before leaving campus for the various volunteering sites. Academy students will be volunteering with SECU Family House, Sunnyside Ministries, and Second Harvest Food Bank. At Second Harvest and Sunnyside, students will be sorting food items or assisting with clothes organization. While at SECU Family House, making snacks for residents and/or helping with household chores are some of the service activities students will be doing.

During the afternoon, Both the Academy and College students will gather for lunch to discuss volunteer experiences. After lunch, Academy students will work with the Salem College students in completing a volunteer project on campus.

Before participating in the service activities, students will need to submit a waiver form to the school, which can be found by clicking here. Please submit all forms to the attention of Felecia Penn, Director of Student Activities. All completed waivers must be turned into the school by Thursday, January 17. On the day of service, students will need arrive at Bryant Hall on Friday, January 18 by 8:00 am to check in with their faculty trip chaperone. The dismissal time for the day is scheduled to be at 3:00 pm.

Get ready to strike out under neon lights! Come and down down some pins as Salem Academy goes cosmic bowling. Neon lights and glow in the dark bowling will be a part of the evening's festivities. School transportation will leave at 10:00 pm.

*There are concessions available at the bowling alley. Please bring money if you would like to purchases.

Hargrave Military Academy

Hargrave Military Academy is inviting Salem Academy students to their annual military ball. The military ball is Hargrave’s version of prom. Also, Hargrave is seeking students who are willing to participate in the promenade ceremony, which honors Hargrave’s senior officers.

It is a great opportunity to support another school and have fun at the same time! Also, if you just want to participate in the dance, you can! For more information about the ball, please click here.

To register for the ball, please click on the button below. In the registration process, you have the option to choose to be a part of the promenade or just attend the dance portion.

Wal-mart Run is going to the Neighborhood Walmart for this run. There is a Starbucks and Subway located near by as well.

Mall Shuttle

Shuttle Stops: Hanes Mall, Target, Wal-mart, & Thruway

*The 5:00 pm shuttle is the last pick up round for students. The shuttle returns to school by 6:00 pm.

Students may not take any other transportation that is not provided by the school.

Volunteer Opportunities

Second Harvest Food Bank is offering multiple chances for the Academy community to give back to the Winston-Salem through various volunteer dates and times beginning in October through January. Click on one of the links below to select a time to work with Second Harvest Food Bank. Whether you volunteer as an individual or within a group, Second Harvest appreciates all the provided support!

We had several large deliveries this week and we need volunteers to help this Friday, January 11th from 1 – 4 and Saturday, January 12 from 9 – 12.
