The primary role of our Resident Counselors is leadership. RC's are responsible for a section of students in the residence halls and mentor students by offering support and advice during their time on campus.
"My RC was phenomenal! She put in significant effort to plan activities for us and help us bond as a section. She was a great supervisor, making sure that we checked in regularly, followed the rules, and had all the information we needed...allowing us to have a true college experience." -Summer Scholar, 2018
Our mission is to provide high school students with a unique and enriching academic experience as they earn a college credit on campus or abroad in one of our Gateways. RC's facilitate academic discussions with their cohort and in the classroom, and by helping students to adapt to the rigorous demands of a college setting. After all, that's what our programs are all about - giving students a glimpse of life as a Notre Dame student.
Resident Counselors supervise and participate on field trips with students, both local and to Chicago! RC's have the opportunity to visit the Art Institute, take an architectural boat tour, visit a Russian Orthodox Church, or even check out a White Sox game!
RC's share their passion for Notre Dame by showing students the unique aspects of life as a Notre Dame student.
RC's help plan and participate in events like Open Mic Night, ice skating in Compton Arena, movie nights, host 'bookstore basketball,' and July 4th festivities. They also live with students in the residence halls and give students a taste of the community at ND!
Study Abroad: Rome
In Rome, a RC is an ambassador for the culture and educational aspects of a study abroad experience. Specific duties of an RC include: being a positive, fun and good influence on the students, aiding in travel logistics, bringing your own experiences of study abroad to the group, being a resource about student life at ND, and working closely with the program supervisor. - Jordan Myers, RC Rome 2018
