Bowdoin athletics A look back at the madness of march

It was a frenetic month of March for Bowdoin athletes as the Polar Bears stood tall on the national (and international!) stage.

March 2-3, 2018

The women's lacrosse team won their home opener in dominant fashion over Connecticut College, 23-6, giving Bowdoin its first spring sports win of the 2018 season.

The women's basketball team advanced out of their home NCAA Regional in Morrell Gymnasium with wins over Husson and FDU-Florham.

Final Score: 94-32

Final Score: 79-57

The Bowdoin nordic ski team sent its largest contingent to the NCAA National Championship in Colorado, with a trio of first-years making their debuts on the national stage.

March 9, 2018

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

Bowdoin's women's distance medley relay team posted a dominating victory to win the NCAA Division III title in Birmingham, Ala.

It was Bowdoin's first championship at indoor nationals since Coby Horowitz won the mile in 2014 and first relay victory at NCAA's since the men's distance medley relay team in 2012.

March 10, 2018

FINAL FOUR BOUND!

The Bowdoin women's basketball team sprinted past Tufts to a 66-48 win in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals in Scranton, Pa. The victory punched Bowdoin's ticket to its second Final Four.

March 13, 2018

The Bowdoin men's tennis team made an early season statement, picking up a 7-2 win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to claim the Stag-Hen Invitational title. With the victory, Bowdoin vaulted to number two in the ITA Division III rankings.

March 15, 2018

At the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship banquet on Thursday, March 15, Bowdoin senior Kate Kerrigan was named the WBCA Division III Player of the Year. She joined Eileen Flaherty '07 as the only Polar Bears to have won the honor.

March 16-17, 2018

Bowdoin overwhelmed Wartburg College in the NCAA Semifinals in Rochester, Minn., on Friday, March 16. With the 90-62 victory, the Polar Bears advanced to their second-ever national championship game.

Meanwhile...

On the other side of the world, Bowdoin senior Jake Adicoff competed in the Paralympic Games in South Korea, capturing a silver medal in the 10k cross-country ski race for visually impaired athletes on March 17.

Despite holding the lead in the third quarter, Bowdoin fell to Amherst in the NCAA Division III Championship game on Saturday, March 17. The Polar Bears finished a sensational campaign with a record of 29-3.

March 21-24, 2018

The Bowdoin swimming & diving teams sent eight competitors to the NCAA Division III Championship in Indianapolis, Ind. 

Karl Sarier - 200 freestyle All-American
Marshall Lowery - 200 backstroke All-American

Polar Bears returned to Maine with several All-American honors and multiple school records.

The Bowdoin softball team finished their Florida swing on a six game winning streak to return north with a 13-3 overall record.

The Bowdoin men's lacrosse team capped its first month of the season with an impressive 17-8 win at Whittier Field against Middlebury College.
