"Wish You Were Here" by Incubus

I dig my toes into the sand.

The ocean looks like a thousand diamonds strewn across a blue blanket.

I lean against the wind, pretend that i am weightless and in this moment i am happy.

[Chorus:]

I wish you were here

I wish you were here

I wish you were here

I wish you were here.

I lay my head onto the sand.

The sky resembles a backlit canopy with holes punched in it.

I'm counting ufo's.

I signal them with my lighter

and in this moment i am happy, happy.

[Chorus]

The world's a roller coaster and I am not strapped in.

Maybe I should hold with care, but my hands are busy in the air.

[Chorus]

This song uses a metaphor that really sticks out to me. "The world's a roller coaster and I am not strapped in". It's purpose to me is that the world is like a roller coaster, because you can never be sure what's going to come around that next corner that you're about to turn. Imagery, "The sky resembles a backlit canopy with holes punched in it", that is very easy to picture in your head.

Lose Yourself By: Eminem

Look

If you had

One shot

Or one opportunity

To seize everything you ever wanted

In one moment

Would you capture it

Or just let it slip?

Yo

His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy

There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti

He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready

To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgettin'

What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud

He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out

He's chokin', how, everybody's jokin' now

The clocks run out, times up, over, blaow!

Snap back to reality, oh there goes gravity

Oh, there goes Rabbit, he choked

He's so mad, but he won't give up that easy? No

He won't have it, he knows his whole back city's ropes

It don't matter, he's dope, he knows that, but he's broke

He's so stacked that he knows, when he goes back to his mobile home, that's when its

Back to the lab again yo, this whole rhapsody

He better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment

You own it, you better never let it go

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow

This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment

You own it, you better never let it go

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow

This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

The souls escaping, through this hole that its gaping

This world is mine for the taking

Make me king, as we move toward a, new world order

A normal life is borin', but super stardom's close to post mortem

It only grows harder, only grows hotter

He blows us all over these hoes is all on him

Coast to coast shows, he's known as the globetrotter

Lonely roads, God only knows, he's grown farther from home, he's no father

He goes home and barely knows his own daughter

But hold your nose 'cause here goes the cold water

His hoes don't want him no mo, he's cold product

They moved on to the next schmo who flows, he nose dove and sold nada

So the soap opera is told and unfolds, I suppose it's old partna, but the beat goes on

Da da dumb da dumb da da

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment

You own it, you better never let it go

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow

This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment

You own it, you better never let it go

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow

This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

No more games, I'm a change what you call rage

Tear this motherfuckin' roof off like two dogs caged

I was playin' in the beginnin', the mood all changed

I been chewed up and spit out and booed off stage

But I kept rhymin' and stepwritin' the next cipher

Best believe somebody's payin' the pied piper

All the pain inside amplified by the

Fact that I can't get by with my nine to

Five and I can't provide the right type of

Life for my family 'cause man, these God damn food stamps don't buy diapers

And its no movie, there's no Mekhi Phifer

This is my life and these times are so hard

And it's getting even harder tryin' to feed and water my seed, plus

See dishonor caught up between bein' a father and a prima-donna

Baby mama drama screamin' on and too much

For me to want to say in one spot, another jam or not

Has gotten me to the point, I'm like a snail I've got

To formulate a plot fore I end up in jail or shot

Success is my only motherfuckin' option, failures not

Mom, I love you, but this trail has got to go, I cannot grow old in Salem's lot

So here I go is my shot

Feet fail me not 'cause maybe the only opportunity that I got

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment

You own it, you better never let it go

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow

This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment

You own it, you better never let it go

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow

This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

You can do anything you set your mind to, man

This song uses imagery when it says "vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti". You can imagine seeing that, it's not very pleasant to imagine, but you can still kind of see it. It's purpose is that when you are put under the spotlight, it can be nerve racking and scary. It uses another example of imagery, "He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready", many people have this look upon them before a big performance. This song also uses a simile, "Has gotten me to the point, I'm like a snail I've got". This means that what he's facing has wore him out to the point of where it's hard to function and move.

Roar

Katy Perry

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath

Scared to rock the boat and make a mess

So I sat quietly, agreed politely

I guess that I forgot I had a choice

I let you push me past the breaking point

I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)

Already brushing off the dust

You hear my voice, your hear that sound

Like thunder, gonna shake your ground

You held me down, but I got up

Get ready 'cause I've had enough

I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter

Dancing through the fire

'Cause I am the champion, and you're gonna hear me roar

Louder, louder than a lion

'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar!

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

You're gonna hear me roar!

Now I'm floating like a butterfly

Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes

I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)

Already brushing off the dust

You hear my voice, your hear that sound

Like thunder, gonna shake the ground

You held me down, but I got up

Get ready 'cause I've had enough

I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter

Dancing through the fire

'Cause I am the champion, and you're gonna hear me roar

Louder, louder than a lion

'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar!

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

You're gonna hear me roar!

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

You're gonna hear me roar!

Roar, roar, roar, roar, roar!

This song uses a simile, "Like thunder, you gotta shake the ground". It's purpose is to show that you have to make a mark and stand your ground, and that you can't back down from a challenge. And mostly that you have to be loud and proud. Another example of a simile is "Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes".

My Poem

I am just like a lion,

A lion is a fierce competitor.

Some people may think I'm lyin,

When I compare myself to a lion.

But what they don't know,

Is that my opponent is dyin.

A lion is big,

Just like me.

Don't approach me,

If you are a twig.

Simile: "A lion is big, Just like me".

Consonance: "I am just like a lion" and "Some people may think I'm lyin"
