“President Roosevelt Speeches Often Help American Cope with Their Poverty”

Families at home often were anxious due to lack of knowledge to Roosevelt's next move on his plan to bring America out of their depression.

Once The Great Depression had begun home life changed. Less people were going out due to the fact they did not have money to spend. Due to the loss of money only two out of five people went to the movies in the week. Many movies that were created were made as an escape from the harsh society.Primarily Blacks, used jazz as their escape from aspects of society. Blacks were not majorly affected, due to the fact that they were not getting much money in the 20’s than they did in the 30’s

“Children Playing Through the 20’s”

Children Often played games to escape their knowledge for a while that they were in the middle of the depression.

African Americans often listened or played jazz for their leisure time. Children often played games for entertainment

“Jazz Was the Escape for Most Blacks Through the Harsh Times in the 30’s”

Majority of blacks constantly played jazz through the 30's as their escape in tough times. However, Blacks were very little affected due to the fact of they had little money before and during The Great Depression.

African Americans often listened or played jazz for their leisure time. Children often played games for entertainment. Blacks trying to make a living were often turned away from soup kitchens. Possibly if they had the money they would even see a movie. However, African Americans often played music as their escape to uplift their spirits.

“Sharecropping During the Great Depression ”

Sharecropping began to decrease due to loss of money on both races. This was minor money loss, but sharecropping was their only job.

Sharecropping decreased due to the lost of money. Farmers did not have lots of money to invest in stock in the first place.

Leisure Time

“Decrease In Consumers Due to Less Income”

Because a the very significant loss of money shoppers began to decrease the amount of objects they bought.

“Farmer Trying to Get Income with Crops”

For most farmers, selling and planting crops was their only income. Therefore, due to the droughts and harsh weathering it became harder to sell and plant crops.

Farmers often planted and worked hard to make sure they had income. Even though farmers income was decreasing rapidly, it still meant that they had money coming in to at least pay for the little things. Leisure time for farmers were very limited. Farmers often were trying to plant or sell their crops , therefore did not really have time to socialize or have fun. Farmers were not majorly affected by the stock market crash as well. Sharecropping decreased due to the lost of money. Farmers did not have lots of money to invest in stock in the first place.

“Jazz Played a Big Role in Entertainment”

Jazz in the 20's and 30's helped a lot of people with there sadness and doubtful thoughts. Listening to jazz was not only fun, it was uplifting to the spirit.

The decrease in crops was due to the greater loss of money from The Great Depression.

Due to the dust bowl and other horrific weather catastrophe, some farmers were forced to move. In other words they were considered to be migrants, people that moved from their original home. The dust bowls and other storms made farmers land impossible to make a living off of

“Stock and its Crash in the late 20’s”

Stock crash was a great loss of money and a sunrise to few. However, many people often saw signs of stock crash but did not put much attention into the thought.

October 1929, was the day America lost millions. Numerous were devastated for they had lost so much money. Business owners could not keep up with their debt forcing them to lay off workers.

The loss of money had a major affect on Americans. The loss of jobs had a domino effect on many other aspects. For example, without getting an income Americans could not pay for their necessities.

Now workers that drop in the category of unemployed can not pay for their necessities. Farmers could not plant or sell crops due to catastrophe of storms that made it difficult to impossible to make a living

“Racial Tension Continues”

Whites often felt threatened by cultures that were not theirs. Therefore their ignorance got the best of people, in result whites constantly took it out their angle with violence on other races.

Racial tension had increased, due to frustration. Because many races and cultures are now unemployed, the frustration level increased.

“Dust Bowl Destroys Farmers Property

The Dust Bowl and other horrific weather disturbance forced farmers to leave their land. For the land, itself, was a catastrophe and impossible to plant or sell crops.

Due to the dust bowl and other horrific weather catastrophe, some farmers were forced to move. In other words they were considered to be migrants, people that moved from their original home. The dust bowls and other storms made farmers land impossible to make a living off of.Work camps were also created during this time to benefit people searching for income.

Role of Government

“Hoovervilles of the 30’s”

Hooverilles were unsanitary, and mainly blamed to the lack of money president Hoover wanted to offer.

Hooverville was a nickname made by Americans for rundown homes. This was associated with the president at the time Hoover. Hoovervilles were a cluster of homes that were made out of scraps.

“Sad Family Struggling in the 30’s”

In this picture it seems to be a mother of two. They appear to be poor and living in a rundown home. This family was for sure not the only family struggling through the 30's.

Families were starving wondering when their next meal was coming from. Overall The Great Depression had an impact on home life, leisure time, economy, and role of government.

“Bonus Army in the 30’s”

The "Bonus Army" were a group of soldiers march down the streets of America demanding rights.

Bonus Army, was a significant day, as army marched down the streets demanding rights

“ The Black Cabinet of the 30’s”

The "Black Cabinet" was created by the New Deal. This act was made by FDR which benefited blacks.

However, African Americans did not really pay any attention to it. Once President Roosevelt took office and created his New Deal he proposed “Black Cabinet
