Summer Term Newsletter 2020 Ysgol Gatholig Sant Ffransis

Shwmae bawb, on behalf of the staff at St Francis and myself, thank you for your messages of support and of thanks at this time. We look forward to continuing to work with you to provide the best possible experiences for our pupils. Within this newsletter there are some updates, key dates and links to great resources such as free Audible books for all.

During these unprecedented times, guidance changes regularly. We will endeavour to keep you updated via our school website and Twitter accounts. It has been wonderful to see so many parents joining us on Twitter and commenting on our pages. The teachers are dedicated to keeping these pages updated and we are pleased to see they are being viewed by more and more of our families and friends. It is wonderful to see the pictures that you are sharing with us and taking part in activities as a family such as gardening. Also it is great to see how everyone has interpreted each task differently and we are seeing how creative our children and families are!

Stay in Touch - Stay Safe - Keep Smiling

Please find an extract from 'Coronavirus and UK schools closures: Support and advice for schools and parents/carers' on the link below:

The well-being of our pupils and families is paramount. As you know there has been an opportunity for parents and pupils to separately give us feedback over the last few weeks. As a result of this feedback we have decided to do the following:

Continue with pupil of the week - The teachers have decided to continue to award 'Pupil of the Week' certificates on a Friday. The wonderful work that is being shared online needs to be celebrated! They will appear on the class pages on Twitter.

In the older classes there will be one set activity for the morning and one for the afternoon. If you'd like more activities Dysgu Ar-lein activities are available for each year group. All activities are created by Pembrokeshire teachers for Pembrokeshire children and families. Please click the link below to sign up for additional learning activities to do at home with your family during this time.

Funday Friday challenges - The children can chose the skills which they would like to develop during this time. As you can see on the image below there is a desire for a variety of tasks. We will continue to update the activities on our website.

The teachers will continue to phone home at least every few weeks as well as be online every weekday. The teachers were delighted to hear from the pupils themselves as well as check in with the parents last week. Please find a message from your teachers on the link below:

Your teachers are online from Monday to Friday to support you.

RELIGIOUS LIFE OF THE SCHOOL

As a Catholic School in the Diocese of Menevia, we have embraced the Catholic Schools’ Pupil Profile, which teaches the children a set of eight pairs of virtues to be understood and nurtured - enabling them to grow in wholeness as fully rounded individuals in the image of God. The pairs of virtues are:

  • Grateful and generous
  • Attentive and discerning
  • Compassionate and loving
  • Faith-filled and hopeful
  • Eloquent and truthful
  • Learned and wise
  • Curious and active
  • Intentional and prophetic

They will continue to change every half-term; this half-term the virtues are ‘Eloquent and Truthful’. This half-term's virtue competition will be led again by the Faith Ambassadors and Mini Vinnies.

Please see the curriculum letters from each class regarding curriculum RE lesson content.

Please find a variety of links below that you may find useful during this time. If you would like to have support in a particular area please contact your teachers on the email addresses provided and we will try to point you in the right direction.
