School News

We would like to thank the cast, crew and everyone involved in putting the High School production of Cinderella together. Many hours of work were put in by so many people – a huge thank you to everyone involved – we couldn’t have done it without you! A very big thank you to our school families who supported the event, whether it be by driving your children to each performance, buying tickets or supporting family members as they donated their time… thank you!!

The SAN Run 4 Life

Sunday the 4th of August was a perfect day for the annual SAN Run 4 Life fun run event. Wahroonga was well represented in both the 10km and 5km events with over 20 students, parents and teachers running on the day.

A number of students braved the early start and extremely hilly course to tackle the 10km race. Isaac Newling came in 28th place with an impressive time of 48 minutes. A number of other high school students achieved their goal of completing the race in under an hour.

The 5km event was a hotly contested event for the schools championship. Representing Wahroonga, Cameron Kueh finished in 22 minutes for an excellent 20th place result. Kyle Smith was the 2nd fastest 6-9 Year old on the day, crossing the line in 23.59mins for 31st place - an outstanding effort for such a young runner on a tough course.

The strong showing across the board from our primary school students in the 5km race earned them first place in the primary school category of the schools championship. It was great to see both the individual and team effort rewarded. The SAN Run 4 Life is a great fundraiser and community, we look forward to participating again in 2020. Running training takes place all year round at 7am on Friday mornings - please contact Mr. Starrett for more information.

STEM Challenge - Year 7 - Wednesday 7th August, 2019

For the STEM Challenge Year 7 students were given the task to design and build a device to serve a table tennis ball. Students were given a limited amount of money (our own currency called Stemmies) and used this to purchase materials from our STEM Store and pay for hiring tools. In addition to the purchased items they were able to a utilise a limited range of materials such as cardboard and string for free from our small recycling centre.

After constructing and testing their devices each team demonstrated their device to the rest of Year 7. The winners were team 6 – Ishan T, Jordan L, Tansey R and Darcy L. (shown in the attached photos). Their device was made almost entirely from recycled materials and were able to make a reliable, adjustable product using only a small portion of their budget.
