January 2021 LCA Head of School Highlights LaVonne McIlrath, LCA Head of School

"And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32

2021 time to thrive!

This past year has been one with many twists and turns, with many days when we didn't even know where we were heading. A year ago we never dreamed of wearing masks and keeping our distance from those we love. Many are thankful just to have SURVIVED 2020! As we begin this new year, let's determine to not just survive, but to THRIVE.

Although I can't begin to predict what will happen in 2021, there are many things that I know with certainty:

  1. God will be with us (Matthew 28:20)
  2. We will have strength for each day (Deuteronomy 33:25)
  3. We will have all our needs met (Philippians 4:19)

Let's determine to THRIVE in 2021 - A year to celebrate what God has done!

We are Eagles, and Eagles Soar! "But those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
Mrs. McIlrath's Retirement Announcement

Over the years I’ve said many times that there's never been a day that I haven’t looked forward to coming to work. The joy of the Lord truly has been my strength. I know He called me to this ministry, and I know He will continue to hold the ministry of LCA in the palm of His hand. As time has passed, I have been asked about my plans for retirement. And each time that I’ve been asked, I conveyed that I probably wouldn’t ever retire from Liberty Christian Academy. This is all I know, and what would I do if I weren’t here?

For the past couple of years, I have been praying that the Lord would show me His purpose and direction. Within the last few months, He has confirmed that it is His time for me to retire at the end of this 2020-2021 school year. I now have perfect peace. My life verses have been Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” I don’t know what my future holds, but I do know Who holds my future and I’m trusting Him to direct my path.

In 1983 my husband had the vision to start a Christian School. At that time rather than the visionary, I was the supporter. We traveled visiting other Christian schools, looking at curriculum and identifying things we liked and didn't like. Growing up in Christian homes, as preacher’s kids, we knew that we didn’t have to have all the answers, we just had to obey as God directed our steps. That year I was finishing my degree in elementary education and in the fall of 1984 I began to teach 1st grade. As God worked in my life I began to take on more leadership responsibilities. By the year 2000 I had become the visionary leader. God laid it very clearly on my heart to expand the ministry of Liberty Christian Academy to the surrounding communities. Branch campuses were started in area churches in Reynoldsburg, Pickerington and Pataskala. By 2006 it was clear that in order to grow and develop our program we needed our own building. Land was found, a builder was selected and 11 months after breaking ground, Liberty Christian Academy East opened with 200+ students. Today we are blessed to have over 500 students in attendance.

The Lord promised many years ago that if we stayed true to our mission of reaching young people for Christ He would continue to bless our ministry. Liberty Christian Academy is God’s school. It is HIS work that is to be accomplished here. Over the years we have witnessed many changes, but one thing that has never changed is our mission. We have and must continue to stay true to our mission of providing a quality education in a Christ centered environment in order to reach students for Christ and equip them to serve God through biblical thought and action.

My retirement will not limit the continued outreach of His work. I am thankful that the Lord has provided an amazing staff, teachers, and dedicated families to continue the work that began 39 years ago. To HIM be the glory!!

"...acknowledge those who work hard among you...Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work." I Thessalonians 5:12-13
LCA annually hosts a Christmas dinner for our employees and their spouses. Although this year we had to modify how we got together, we still had many reasons to celebrate. Mrs. Baird and Mrs. Cecil were recognized for their years of faithful service and commitment to our ministry.
Mrs. Carol Baird - Mrs. Baird has completed 10 years of teaching at LCA. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Otterbein University and her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University. Mrs. Baird currently teaches kindergarten.
Mrs. Amanda Cecil - Mrs. Cecil has completed 15 years of ministry at LCA. She has her Bachelor's Degree from Ohio University and is completing her Master's Degree form Bob Jones University. She has taught preschool, kindergarten and first grade, and she currently serves as Elementary Principal.
They both truly demonstrate a servant's heart and joyfully use their talents and abilities to serve the Lord. We are blessed to have them in our ministry.
