Universal Theme: You can achieve all dreams if you put your mind to it.

"Of Mice Men"

Well, we ain't got any," George exploded. "Whatever we ain't got, that's what you want. God a'mighty, if I was alone I could live so easy. I could go get a job an' work, an' no trouble. No mess at all, and when the end of the month come I could take my fifty bucks and go into town and get whatever I want. Why, I could stay in a cathouse all night. I could eat any place I want, hotel or any place, and order any damn thing I could think of. An' I could do all that every damn month. Get a gallon of whisky, or set in a pool room and play cards or shoot pool." Lennie knelt and looked over the fire at the angry George. And Lennie's face was drawn in with terror. "An' whatta I got," George went on furiously. "I got you! You can't keep a job and you lose me ever' job I get. Jus' keep me shovin' all over the country all the time." (1.89)

Some dreams involve a farm of one's own; some dreams involve "cathouses" and "pool rooms." Of course, George is just lashing out. All he really wants is Lennie. Awww.

"I remember about the rabbits, George."The hell with the rabbits. That's all you can ever remember is them rabbits." (1.18-19)

Not mice, not chickens, not cats: rabbits. All of Lennie's future is wrapped up in rabbits. On the one hand, it's nice to have a concrete goal. On the other hand, this is about as unrealistic for him as it would be if George wanted to become president. (In the meantime, Lennie, try this Tumblr.)

"The Scarlet Ibis"

"Of course, he wasn't crazy, crazy...but was a nice crazy like someone you meet in your dreams."

Doodle's mentality is that of a small child. He thinks that he's going to grow up and marry his mother, and he'll always live with his parents and brother. Although it sounds crazy, that's his mentality. He's a dreamer and the symbol of innocence all in one. Unfortunately, Doodle does not get the future he dreams of, lying in the soft grass of Old Woman Swamp, living in a house make of "whispering leaves," and collecting dog-tongue.

"She said he would live because he was born caul and cauls are made from Jesus nightgown."

This is a transformation quote.

Toy Story and Cars

While playing with Woody and Buzz, Andy accidentally rips Woody's arm, leaving him unable to take his doll to the camp. Woody is placed on the shelf. The next morning, after having a nightmare of being thrown into the trash can because of his torn arm.

Lightning McQueen's dream is to be sponsored by Dinoco Oil! In his daydreams he looks great with his new Dinoco blue paint job and his very own brand of Lightning McQueen racing tires complete with custom spinners. Hey, and why decide on either gold or silver spinners when you can have both?

So what? Impact

Symbols are the language of dreams. A symbol can invoke a feeling or an idea and often has a much more profound and deeper meaning than any one word can convey. At the same time, these symbols can leave you confused and wondering what that dream was all about.

Acquiring the ability to interpret your dreams is a powerful tool. In analyzing your dreams, you can learn about your deep secrets and hidden feelings. Remember that no one is a better expert at interpreting your dreams than yourself.
