Missouri Valley Conference Championship Recap
Momma said there would be days like this. After a season filled with positives, we finished the year with a bad taste in our mouths at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship which was contested in late April at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, MO. The Redbirds entered as the unanimous favorite, but struggled to a 4th place tie after three rounds ending our season earlier than planned. David Rauer and Dave Perkins both placed inside the top 10 finishing 6th & 7th with scores of 223 (77-74-72) & 224 (77-73-74) respectively. Zach Burry & Dave Perkins were both named to the MVC All-Conference Team, and David Rauer was named MVC Newcomer of the Year.
Congrats to our graduates!
Four years go by quickly, and Zach Burry & Jason Marrs are off to the next stage in life as graduates of Illinois State University! Zach, who played in every event but one while here as a Redbird, is looking forward to a career as a playing professional, while Jason, graduating with a 3.90 GPA, will be entering the arena of financial planning. A special thank you to both of these great young men for their leadership and commitment to the program!

2018 NJCAA Div I National Champion
Finishing off his junior college career at Iowa Western in style, incoming transfer Joel Durnford, Tarcowie, South Australia, won the NJCAA Div. I Championship in convincing fashion at Texas Tech's Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas last May. Joel seized the lead right away by posting the low score of the day in both rounds one & two, and he never relinquished it on the way to victory with a four round total of 15 under par 273, 66-67-69-71. He was 6 shots clear of second place and one of only 13 golfers in the 107 player field to finish in the red. National champion has a sweet ring to it! Cheers, Joel!
Perkins wins CDGA Am!
After qualifiers around the state narrowed the field from over 225 players to 75, 36 holes of stroke play identified the top 16 players for the match play portion of the CDGA Amateur Championship in mid-June. Both Dave Perkins and Trent Wallace won their first three matches to set up an all Redbird championship match. The guys spread the red around the golf course with over 10 birdies and were deadlocked through 18 holes before Dave Perkins emerged victorious on the 5th extra hole. Well played, Dave & Trent!
Wallace 4th at Illinois State Am!
The Redbirds were well represented with Trent Wallace and Dan Anfield both making the cut and contending at the Illinois State Amateur Championship held recently at Bloomington Country Club. Trent tied for 4th, 69-69-68-75=281, earning an exemption into next year's tournament, and Dan finished tied for 27th, 70-75-76-72=293. Congrats to both Trent & Dan!
Anfield wins USGA Amateur Qualifier!
90 players teed it up at Weibring Golf Club in early July competing for the top 4 spots to earn the right to compete at the US Amateur Championship. The golf course proved to be a tough test as only 5 players broke par for the day. Redbird sophomore Dan Anfield punched his ticket to Pebble Beach by winning the qualifying event with scores of 68-68=136 (-6). Way to go, Dan!
New Redbird Tyrrell 2nd at AJGA event!
Against a strong national field, incoming freshman Ben Tyrrell finished 2nd out of 71 players at the AJGA D.A Points Jr. Championship recently at Pekin Country Club. Ben posted three rounds of par or better, 72-72-69, for a 3 under par total of 213 just 1 shot back of the winner. Only 5 players from the field of 71 broke par. Congrats, Ben!
Alum Ricky Hearden makes Web cut!
Ricky Hearden, a 2013 alum, continues to elevate his game and recently qualified for and made the cut in the Web.com's Lincoln Land Championship presented by LRS. After firing a blistering 63 in the Monday qualifier, Ricky chipped in for birdie on the 18th to shoot 67-69 over the Panther Creek par 71 layout and make the cut on the number. He closed with 69-70 bringing his four round total to 275, -9 which tied him for 62nd. Earlier this summer, Ricky also played in the Web.com's Nashville Golf Open after firing a 10 under par 62 in the Monday qualifier. Big time stuff, Ricky!
