The Omaha hockey team dropped a pair of games to visiting North Dakota last weekend, losing 9-1 and 7-4. Austin Ortega led the Mavericks in scoring with four points. On Friday, Ortega had Omaha's only goal.

The following night, Ortega assisted on all three goals, but the Fighting Hawks held off the Mavericks, 7-4. Tyler Vesel, Fredrik Olofsson and David Pope all scored for UNO.


The Omaha men's basketball team split its two games last week, opening with an 80-78 loss to preseason league favorite Fort Wayne on Wednesday. Marcus Tyus eclipsed the 1,000 career points milestone, becoming the 37th 1,000-point scorer in school history. He finished with 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range and 5-of-5 at the free throw line. Tre'Shawn Thurman added his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

On Saturday, the Mavericks earned their first league win, 101-93 at South Dakota State, propelled by a season-high-tying 16 3-pointers. Tyus again led the attack, pouring a game-high 34 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 8-of-13 from distance and 6-of-7 at the line. His 3-point performance tied Omaha's single-game threes record.

Marcus Tyus earned his first career Summit League Co-Player of the Week award on Monday.

The Omaha women's basketball team went 1-1 in Summit League play last week, beating IUPUI, 64-44, on Thursday. Michaela Dapprich led the Mavericks with 18 points. Mikaela Shaw added a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Shaw also become the seventh player in program history to reach the 1,500 career points milestone.

On Saturday, Omaha fell 76-64 at South Dakota State. Dapprich again led the Mavericks with 18 points. Shaw notched her second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Remy Davenport added nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.
