From the Principal's Desk
Mrs Carlie Deppeler
Welcome to 2020! We have been blessed to have had a smooth transition into the school year. I want to take this opportunity to welcome all new families and staff to the College and to welcome back those who have been with us for a while. Over the next few weeks, our newsletter will feature profiles on our new staff, and we know you will make them feel welcome as you see them around campus.
Schools are always busy places but I believe a K-12 school split over 2 campuses is just that little bit more crazy! So much has happened, with welcoming Kindy to their first day of school, Opening Convocation, dedication of our Junior School captains, year 7 camp, our first ever Junior School Chapel at Kellyville and Welcome Tea at Castle Hill, just to name a few.
I have also been pleased to hear the noise level dramatically increase at recess and lunch times at Kellyville with students keeping phones and devices away and interacting with their peers. I encourage students to keep this up and enjoy the social interaction.
Apart from saying welcome, I would like to thank the Hills Adventist College Community for making me feel so welcome as I stepped up into the role of Principal and I look forward to working with this supportive and encouraging community as God takes us on this amazing journey.
New Staff Profile
Mr Pakoti is of Cook Islander heritage and was born in New Zealand. He comes from a large family, with five brothers and a sister. His music background includes being a part of the Gospel Singing Group, Endless Praise, back in 1985, after which he married the beautiful Leonora and they welcomed three daughters, who are now grown. They now have welcomed two grandchildren into the family.
Mr Pakoti graduated from Avondale University College in 2015, and taught at Gilson College, one of our sister Adventist schools in Melbourne until last year. Mr Pakoti loves the synergy approach that music provides, working in harmony when playing an instrument and singing a chorus. Mr Pakoti feels teaching gives him the opportunity to engage and make a difference in student’s lives, helping them achieve their ultimate goals with a humble spirit. Outside of teaching, Mr Pakoti enjoys Rugby Union (the All Blacks), Rugby League (The Roosters) and golf. We welcome Mr Pakoti to our staff and know that our students will enjoy learning from his extensive musical experience.
Ms Rutherford became an English teacher after she decided that she really did not want to be a lawyer and she has always been so glad that she went back to university to study literature. She loves teaching and encouraging students to be the best person they can be both in and out of the classroom. She has a passion for language as that is what enables us to be effective communicators. One of her 'things' in the classroom is to expand the students' vocabulary in every lesson. Her catchphrase is ' You will always leave my class knowing at least one more idea than when you came in.'
When she is not teaching, she likes reading (of course), going to the movies, AFL (go the Bombers!!!), horse riding, the beach and camping.
Welcome to Ms Rutherford, and we look forward to you sharing your wealth of experience with our students.

Home & School Parent Facebook Groups
For those who are unaware, our Home & School Association facilitates private Facebook groups for each year level. You are welcome to join these groups to connect with other families. Please note these are not part of the official communications of the College, however the College occasionally will post in these groups. The Home & School Association also posts about upcoming events, and volunteer opportunities. To join these groups, search for "HAC Year ___ 2020". Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 have separate groups for Castle Hill and Kellyville classes, and are differentiated by a CH or KV at the end of the group name. We thank the Home & School for creating these pages to facilitate a sense of community at our College.
Update of Personal Details
If you have changed any of your personal details, such as phone number, email address, or your child's medical details have changed, please contact Mrs Reilly, the Registrar as soon as possible on 9851 5101 or email: email@example.com. If you have not been receiving regular emails from the College, please call to confirm your email address, or check if your mail server has been unintentionally blocking emails from the College.
There are occasions where emails will be undelivered if your inbox, some email providers will only allow a certain number of unread emails in your inbox before blocking new ones, or if your email is connected to your phone account, and the bill is overdue, then your provider may block incoming emails. Please note currently emails from the College will appear in your inbox as from "Mrs Linda Taskis". Please watch out for these in your inbox and read these carefully, as they are the main form of communication from the College.
The College requests that in the interests of your childs own wellbeing, and in consideration of the greater College community, we appreciate you keeping your child at home and ensuring they are back to good health before returning to school. Thank you for taking note of this.

Scholastic Book Club
Students in Prep - Year 4 will receive their first Scholastic Book Club brochure this week. Please note that we do not accept cash with any of the orders placed. All orders are placed directly by you via the Book Club LOOP platform which allows you to pay online.
To place an order for your child please go to scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
Follow these easy steps:
1. Simply take your child's Book Club catalogue and either SIGN IN or REGISTER your account.
2. Add your child's first name and last initial (So the school knows who the book is for), then select your SCHOOL and your CHILD's CLASS.
3. Click on ORDER and enter the item number from the Book Club catalogue.
4. All orders are linked directly to the school for submission to Scholastic. Books will still be delivered to your child's classroom if you order by the close date.
When you are registering your child for LOOP orders you will need to ENTER POSTCODE: 2154
This will then display all of the schools with this postcode. You will need to select HILLS ADVENTIST [Castle Hill]. Even if you are from Kellyville campus, please enter these details, as the College has just one registration with Scholastic for both campuses.
PLEASE NOTE: Our school's close date for Scholastic Book Club Catalogue - Issue 1 is 13th February, 2020.

Woolworths Earn & Learn
Thank you for donating your Woolworths Earn and Learn stickers last year. We have recently received some school resources that are going to be distributed across the College. The flexible seating, LEGO kits, construction packs and VR cubes are going to provide new and engaging learning experiences for our students. We look forward to participating in the program again this year.
