Barranquilla, Colombia is he home town.
Born February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, Columbia. She speaks and sings in Spanish and English. Shakira is a Columbia singer, songwriter, dancer, and record producer. Her father was Lebanese and an Native Colombian mother. She started belly dancing at a young age. At age 10 she started to write songs and started talent competitions. Shakira had a record deal at the age of 10 years old. Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993) were her first two albums.
Why is she important?
I think she's important in the Latin American history because she helps people and she was the most successful Latin American recording artist by the early 2000's. Shakira helps witha a foundation called Barefoot Foundation. The Barefoot foundation includes to ensure that every Colombian child can exercise their right to a quality education. Their main focus is on aid through education, and the organization has five schools across Colombia that provides education and meals for at least 4,000 child in Colombia. Anyway's, Shakira focuses on things and never quits or continues on what she's doing. In 1998 she focused her efforts on establishing herself in the American market. She had a Grammy award for best Latin pop album, released her first English-language album in 2001. Also, she received song-of-the-year and record-of-the-year while participating in the Latin Grammy awards.
I believe Shakira would tie in with Empire Building because she motivates people with are songs and how she belly dances people may follow along with that. She didn't really conquer anythings besides her Grammy's she has won in the past. Shakira would also tie in Cultural Interaction because she goes and helps people around the world and she speaks both Spanish and English. So, that's kind of an advantage of here helping and shes not really racist at last I think because she has all different types of people in her music videos.
"It doesn't bother me to talk about my private life, it doesn't bother me to talk about anything. My life is like a glass of water, transparent."-Shakira
