CoastUp
An entertaining and simple way to learn more about ocean health
User Journey
Eva is a college student living in Oakland. She often travels out to the ocean and loves to spend time in Santa Cruz. She is interested in learning more about ocean health but she finds that with her busy schedule she just doesn't have the time.
Her friends recommend that she download CoastUP. A new app that helps educate people about ocean health and connect them to coastal restoration and clean up events.
She downloads the app and signs up. The first screen she sees after that is a reef which can be decorated with fish and corals that can be bought with points that are earned in the app.
They way she is able to earn points is by completing lessons, playing games with her friends or going out and participating in a beach clean up events.
She starts with lessons. She finds that she can easily fit the quick lessons into her busy schedule. She often will take a few lessons while she is on breaks at work. They are visually interesting and the information is presented in an engaging easy to understand way. She feels like she's learning a lot about a topic she is passionate about.
She also enjoys the game feature where she has connected with her friends and competes with them to win special fish and earn more points. It's a fun way to reinforce the information she has learned in the lessons.
Lastly she finds that she is able to get out to more beach clean up events than she was before. With her new knowledge and friends on the app she realizes how important oceans are to maintaining our global ecosystem so she wants to do her part. Her and her friends now send each other beach clean up and restoration events from the app and all go out together. She feels good knowing that she is making a difference, and it is a lot more fun doing it with her friends.
